JORDAN: Give women equal citizenship rights to men
LEBANON: Give women equal citizenship rights to men under the nationality law
Equal treatment of women and men under the law is necessary for women and girls to realize their full potential and enjoy equal rights and opportunities with men. Laws that discriminate against women not only impede gender equality but also send a message that the state considers women to be on a lower footing than men.

#Defamation, Libel and Slander Law
August, 2003
Contents
It is not unusual for attorneys to receive inquiries about defamation actions from people who are in conflicts with neighbors or other members of their communities, and have become the subjects of vicious lies. The area of law most implicated by that type of conduct is defamation of character , a cause of action which is generally defined to include libel and slander .
What Are Defamation, Libel and Slander?
Generally speaking, defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm. Slander involves the making of defamatory statements by a transitory (non-fixed) representation, usually an oral (spoken) representation. Libel involves the making of defamatory statements in a printed or fixed medium, such as a magazine or newspaper.
Typically, the elements of a cause of action for defamation include:

#Divorce laws
Divorce and Separation: An Overview
A divorce formally dissolves a legal marriage. While married couples do not possess a constitutional or legal right to divorce, states permit divorces because to do so best serves public policy. To ensure that a particular divorce serves public policy interests, some states require a "cooling-off period," which prescribes a time period after legal separation that spouses must bear before they can initiate divorce proceedings.
Courts in the United States currently recognize two types of divorces: absolute divorce, known as "divorce a vinculo matrimonii" and limited divorce, known as "divorce a menso et thoro". To obtain an absolute divorce, courts require some type of evidentiary showing of misconduct or wrongdoing on one spouse's part. An absolute divorce is a judicial termination of a legal marriage. An absolute divorce results in the changing back of both parties' statuses to single. Limited divorces are typicall

#Disability Law
Disability Law: An Overview
Disability law is largely regulated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. This Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, housing, education, and access to public services.
The ADA defines a disability as any of the following:
- "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual."
- "a record of such impairment." or
- "being regarded as having such an impairment."
While alcoholism is included as a disability, other socially undesirable behavior is excluded from the Act. For example, sexual behavior disorders, compulsive gambling, and pyromania are all excluded. The ADA, however, does not list all impairments covered. The ADA further requires that reasonable accomodation be made so as to provide individuals with disabilities equal opportunities. Agenices and

#Dictionary of Legal Terms: Steven H. Gifis: 9780764139215: Books
Most Helpful Customer Reviews
47 of 47 people found the following review helpful
Format: Paperback
Barron's "Dictionary of Legal Terms" is a solid text. When I asked a law friend of mine which law dictionary I should purchase he told me that "Black's" was the best law dictionary out there. However, it is rather expensive at eighty or so dollars. Even the pocket version of the text is at least twenty dollars. So I sprang for this law dictionary at about eight dollars.
The only reason that I did not give this 5 stars is that it is not as complete as some of the other books that I looked at. This version has "more than 2500 legal terms" and the other books were all about 3000. However, I have not yet come across a word or jargon that I was unable to find in this book so I am not sure what the other 500+ words or phrases are.
Solid book. Highly recommended.

#Different law degrees
your key guide to university options
To law degree or not to law degree
Choosing whether to study law at university or whether to study another subject and convert later is a difficult choice for some. Here we explain conversion courses and offer advice on how to make the decision.
Some people don t know if they want to be a lawyer, but they want to study law because it interests them as an academic subject. For these people, choosing to study a law degree is easy.
For others, while they may wish to practice as a lawyer, they face a choice between studying a law degree or studying a non-law degree and then completing a conversion course (the Graduate Diploma in Law/Common Professional Examination).

#Do B-school rankings really matter?
As a business school dean, I am frequently asked about rankings. Alumni wonder whether their degrees have lost—or gained—value because of rankings, and aspiring applicants fret about which rankings to trust. After all, there are many out there, each with a different formula, and each with a different school at the top. This puts prospective applicants in a position of consulting advisors who rarely agree. Given the element of subjectivity involved, it’s tempting to throw your hands in the air, as many academic leaders do, and conclude that rankings simply do not matter.
But those people are wrong. Rankings do matter, though perhaps not in the way that many would expect.
The basic question is this: how do you measure the quality of a business school? It isn’t necessarily in the number of prizes your faculty has won or how many of your alumni are CEOs. (Even a pre-teen can call himself a CEO, as I was reminded by the lates

#Doctor Explains Arizona New Abortion Law
Photo: Bill Clark/Getty Images.
A new round of abortion restrictions are on the way, starting with new, controversial laws in two states.
Last week, Arizona's Governor quietly signed a law that requires doctors to talk to patients in need of abortions about a controversial, untested procedure — regardless of whether it's medically valid — and on Monday, Arkansas' Governor signed a similar bill.
These laws require doctors to counsel patients seeking pregnancy terminations — who already have to deal with waiting periods and sometimes hours-long trips from rural areas to providers in cities — on a non-surgical procedure that doesn't exactly exist.
Julie Kwatra, an Ob/Gyn in Scottsdale and Legislative Chair for the Arizona chapter of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, spoke to Refinery29 about Arizona's law and about why "abortion reversals" are bad medicine. Whil

#Don Lemon Blasts Indiana s Discriminatory Religious Freedom Law In Powerful Speech
Jackson Connor HuffPost Media fellow
One minute was all it took for CNN's Don Lemon to pick apart Indiana's controversial religious freedom law Monday night.
Much of the country has found itself wrapped in heated debate after Gov. Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law last Thursday. Critics claim the law enables businesses to discriminate against members of the LGBT community, while Pence has maintained that the legislation is "about affording citizens full protection under Indiana law."
Lemon wasn't buying Pence's defense, though, calling it "disingenuous" to pretend that the legislation doesn't enable bigotry.
"Let's be honest, to say that this law is not discriminatory is disingenuous at the very least," Lemon said. "The law doesn't protect religious freedom, it allows someone the ability to impose their religious views onto someone else.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967, as amended
The ADEA prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of age (40 years or older). Unlike Title VII and the Rehabilitation Act, the ADEA allows persons claiming age discrimination to go directly to court without going through an agency's administrative complaint procedures. If, however, a complainant chooses to file an administrative complaint, (s)he must exhaust administrative remedies before proceeding to court.
