#Prepare for an MBA Internship - US News
Participating in school competitions can prepare students for work, one expert says.
By January, some first-year MBA students have taken the first step in securing their careers as business leaders: They've accepted summer internship offers.
Employment is such a critical part of the b-school experience that an MBA program's career office usually starts working with first-year students before they arrive on campus and continues working with them — on resume writing, interviewing and other skills — after they find summer employment.
Once you accept an internship, the process doesn't stop, says Mark Brostoff of Washington University in St. Louis' Olin Business School. Brostoff is the associate dean and director of the business school's Weston Career Center.
In areas such as consulting or banking, he says, it's not unheard for students to already have internships lined up.
Prospective students think about

#Law and Order: SVU Cartoonifies the Rolling Stone UVA Rape Debacle
Law and Order: SVU aired their take on the UVA rape case last night, in which a seemingly credible young woman says she was gang-raped by a hockey team at New York's fictional Hudson University. In the end—spoiler alert—her story (sort of) falls apart. In between, we got a mixture of smart observations about how rape allegations are handled in the media, and SVU's trademark corny, cringingly ham-handed and caricatured version of real events. Brace yourselves.
The episode begins with Detective Olivia Benson watching America's Worst Crimes, a super classy TV show which reenacts the young victim, Jane, getting gang-raped and interviews her in a room that is definitely not dark enough to hide her identity. The mayor's wife is watching the show too, and soon enough, the fictional NYPD is beating down the doors of AWC, trying to find the victim. (The real NYPD was so badly mishandling sexual ass

#Press Release: Online Learning Survey Report 2014
Multi-year trend shows growth in online enrollments is moderating, yet outpacing overall higher ed enrollments.
(Wellesley, MA) – The 2014 Survey of Online Learning conducted by the Babson Survey Research Group and co-sponsored by the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), Pearson and Tyton Partners, reveals the number of higher education students taking at least one distance education course in 2014 is up 3.7 percent from the previous year. While this represents the slowest rate of increase in over a decade, online enrollment growth far exceeded that of overall higher education.
“The study’s findings point to a competitive marketplace, in which traditional institutions are gaining ground on the for-profits in online and distance education,” said study co-author Jeff Seaman, co-director of the Babson Survey Research Group. “While the rapid pace of online learning growth has moderated, it still accounts for nearly thre

#President Obama Backs Two-Year Law Degree - Law Blog
Barack Obama
Associated Press President Barack Obama at the University at Buffalo on Thursday.
President Barack Obama on Friday said he supports the idea of shortening law school to two years, taking sides on one of the most divisive issues confronting the legal education world.
The president floated the idea in an apparently off-the-cuff remark at a town-hall meeting at Binghamton University during an upstate tour to promote education tuition reforms.
The idea of lopping off a year of law school has gained currency with practicing lawyers and some scholars as law schools struggle to convince students that getting a law degree is worth the burden of debt.
“This is probably controversial to say, but what the heck? I’m in my second term, so I can say it,” said Mr. Obama, a graduate of Harvard Law School. “I believe, for example, that law schools would probably be wise to think about being

Rules of conduct approved and enforced by the government of and over a certain territory (eg. the 'laws' of Australia).
Stripped of the necessity of an enforcement agency (government), the term law has been defined, simply, as:
“. a mechanism for facilitating and regulating interaction between autonomous entities." 1
In The Science of Law (1885) British jurist Sheldon Amos wrote:
"A law is. a command proceeding from the supreme political authority of a state, and addressed to the persons who are subjects of that authority."
"A rule of. conduct prescribed by the supreme power in a state, commanding what is right and prohibiting what is wrong."
Violation of these rules could lead to enforcement, government reaction such as imprisonment or fine, or private action such as a legal judgment against the offender obtained by the person injured by the action prohibited by law

#Law Degrees
20key%20skills-300x200.jpg" /% What is law?
It may seem obvious, but what is law. Law, or legal studies, comes into contact with almost every area of human life, touching upon issues relating to business, economics, politics, the environment, human rights, international relations and trade. It is telling that the first academic degrees developed were all related to law. As a law student, you can expect to learn how to tackle some of the most problematic – indeed, often seemingly irresolvable – conflicts and issues in modern society and morality. In providing a framework through which to examine and understand different societies and cultures, law degrees are a useful way to prepare not only for specific legal careers, but for a broad range of professional roles – and indeed, for life in general.

#Law and the Multiverse
Uncle Ben at the Supreme Court
Thanks to Joe, Josh, and others for pointing out Justice Kagan s quotation in yesterday s decision in Kimble v. Marvel :
What we can decide, we can undecide. But stare decisis teaches that we should exercise that authority sparingly. Cf. S. Lee and S. Ditko, Amazing Fantasy No. 15: “Spider-Man,” p. 13 (1962) (“[I]n this world, with great power there must also come—great responsibility”). Finding many reasons for staying the stare decisis course and no “special justification” for departing from it, we decline Kimble’s invitation to overrule Brulotte .
I happen to disagree with the majority s decision; Brulotte v. Thys was wrongly decided*, and the Court wasted a rare opportunity to correct a mistake. So on the one hand the citation and other references to Spider-Man were fun, but on the other hand it felt a little too cute by half for a decision th

Recommended Reviews
I filed with Price Law Group a little over a year ago and I was pretty satisfied with them. I m not sure why other people reviewing them didn t really like them. My attorney was Allan and he was really nice and he explained everything to me very patiently. I actually went to another consultation before I went to Price Law Group to some attorney in Woodland Hills and he was very rude and made me feel like crap about filing and told me some information that was not accurate. Allan really knew his stuff and helped me feel comfortable about filing.
Their prices are actually pretty decent. I shopped around before I went to Price and PLG was definitely a lot cheaper than everywhere else I called. Maybe it s a case by case basis, but I was charged $1600. Only $800 is required as a deposit to file and after that they take monthly payments. They were extremely fle

#Law colleges
Pearl, Oisin and Tatiana on graduation day
Welcome to the Law subject page at King s! Here you will find an overview of the subject in the University and the College, the people who teach and research Law at King s, and what will happen when you apply.
What is Law?
The word law usually conjures up either a graphic snapshot of the more sensational murders, rapes and other violent crimes that grace the pages of the tabloid press, or the depressing image of balding, middle-aged, grey men in pin-striped City suits worrying about the placing of a comma. Neither picture is wholly wrong, but both are inadequate.
Law is indeed about drama, conflict, the individual and society. It is also about rigorous logic, care and precision, clarity of thought and attention to detail. Law is not an easy ticket to being a fat cat . It can be an absorbing, passionate and very satisfying way of spending a working life.

#Prevalence and Public Health Implications of State Laws that Criminalize Potential HIV Exposure in the United States
Abstract
For the past three decades, legislative approaches to prevent HIV transmission have been used at the national, state, and local levels. One punitive legislative approach has been enactment of laws that criminalize behaviors associated with HIV exposure (HIV-specific criminal laws). In the USA, HIV-specific criminal laws have largely been shaped by state laws. These laws impose criminal penalties on persons who know they have HIV and subsequently engage in certain behaviors, most commonly sexual activity without prior disclosure of HIV-positive serostatus. These laws have been subject to intense public debate. Using public health law research methods, data from the legal database WestlawNext© were analyzed to describe the prevalence and characteristics of laws that criminalize potential HIV exposure in the 50 states (plus the District of Columbia)

Careers
Practicing as a Lawyer in Scotland
A Scottish lawyer will practise as a solicitor, an Advocate or a Solicitor Advocate. The terms solicitor and lawyer in Scotland are almost interchangeable. Solicitors provide legal advice and drafting expertise, and may conduct minor litigation. Advocates (or barristers as they are known in England) have rights of audience and will plead cases in the courts, as well as undertaking opinion work.
In Scotland, entry as a solicitor is regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. and most students complete an LLB degree (either Honours or Ordinary), followed by a one year Diploma in Legal Practice. After this, students commence a two year traineeship with a firm of solicitors or a public sector organisation, such as the Scottish Government or Procurator Fiscal service.*
For applicants who already hold a degree, the typical conversion pathway to qualify as a solicitor is:
