#Patent Law in the United States (Bitlaw)
Patent Law in the United States
Patents have been in the news recently as Amazon.com and other Internet companies have used patents to obtain monopoly rights in certain inventions. Although many object to anyone having a monopoly on an idea or invention, such monopoly rights have always been a fundamental part of the patent system.
The importance of granting monopolies for new inventions has been recognized in the United States since the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. In Article I, section 8, the U.S. Constitution:
Congress shall have power. To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.
Patents in the United States are governed by the Patent Act (35 U.S. Code), which established the United States Patent and Trademark Office (the USPTO). The most common type of patent is a utilit

#Family Law Lawyers - Compare Top Family Law Attorneys
Dealing with family law issues?
Family law generally concerns domestic relations and family-related matters such as marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships, adoptions, paternity, guardianships, domestic abuse, surrogacy, child custody, child abduction, the dissolution of marriage and associated issues. Each state has its own set of family laws, and traveling across state borders can sometimes affect your rights and those of your family.
Contrary to popular belief, seeking the advice of a family law attorney does not necessarily mean that something is amiss in your family. A family law attorney can help negotiate prenuptial/premarital agreements for clients in anticipation of marriage or advise same-sex couples on relevant legal issues affecting their relationship. They also can help with adoption proceedings and other procedures involving children.
Family law attorneys often do represent clients se

#FBI - Overview
Hate Crime Overview
Investigating hate crime is the number one priority of our Civil Rights Program. Why? Not only because hate crime has a devastating impact on families and communities, but also because groups that preach hatred and intolerance plant the seeds of terrorism here in our country.
Defining a Hate Crime
FBI Jurisdiction
A hate crime is not a distinct federal offense. However, the federal government can and does investigate and prosecute crimes of bias as civil rights violations, which do fall under its jurisdiction. These efforts serve as a backstop for state and local authorities, which handle the vast majority of hate crime cases. A 1994 federal law also increased penalties for offenses proven to be hate crimes.
In 2009, the passage of a new law the first significant expansion of federal criminal civil rights law since the mid-1990s gave the federal government the authority to prosecute violent ha

#Finding Online Accredited Biology Degree Programs
The accreditation of a college or a degree program is simply a question of whether or not it is recognized by trustworthy authorities. Get help finding accredited online programs in biology by reading the article below.
Determining College and Degree Accreditation
The best way to go about determining the accreditation status of an online biology degree program, and often any other degree, is to begin with the college's website. Almost without exception, colleges will post on their website their accreditation status and what organizations they are accredited by. This is true for both colleges that are legitimately accredited and those that are not.
For small or non-traditional colleges, the accreditation section can often be found as a separate link on the college's link bar, posted to be obvious to visitors. For large colleges, accreditation information may be relatively hidden, usually in a link on the 'A

#Paying a Private Criminal Defense Attorney - Cost of Defense
How much will a lawyer cost? Here are the various ways that private criminal lawyers charge for their work.
One of the first questions you're likely to ask an attorney whom you're considering hiring is, "What will this cost?" Here's the low-down on how criminal defense attorneys charge for their services, which vary according to such factors as:
The probable complexity of the case. Most attorneys charge more for felonies than for misdemeanors, because felonies carry greater penalties, often require more court appearances, demand more preparation, and so on.
The attorney’s experience. Generally, less experienced attorneys set lower fees than their more experienced colleagues. But beware when you encounter an extremely low hourly rate (see below), which can be misleading. An experienced attorney with a high hourly rate may be able to resolve a case more quickly an

#Paying For Law School - Scholarship Finder
Each year, law students collectively take on millions of dollars in additional debt--in some cases, completely unnecessarily. Why? Because they could have paid for part or all of their law school classes if only they had applied for the hundreds of private scholarships that exist specifically for law students. That’s unfortunate, because most law students never even hear about these scholarship opportunities.
At AdmissionsDean, we are trying to change that by building the largest free database of private law school scholarships on the Internet. We've organized our Scholarship Finder by demographic and topical categories, as well as by specific law schools that offer private scholarships to their own students. While we constantly update our Scholarship Finder, please email us if you come across a scholarship we’ve missed and we’ll add it to our database.
So don’t stop at the financial aid package your law school offers -- t

#Fired attorneys withdraw from representing Tamir Rice estate in lawsuit, court records show
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Three attorneys who were representing the estate of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in a lawsuit against the city of Cleveland stepped down Friday, according to a court filing from the estate's new attorneys.
Attorneys Benjamin Crump sent a letter of resignation Friday on behalf of himself, Daryl Parks and Walter Madison, the filing shows. It also shows that the lawyers still represent Leonard Warner, the boy's father, in the wrongful death lawsuit.
New York law firm Emery Celli Brinckeerhoff Abady and Cleveland attorney Subodh Chandra now represent the estate. Administrator Douglas Winston hired the team after Tamir's mother, Samaria Rice, retained them as counsel.
The court filing asks Chief U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver Jr. to appoint the firm of Emery Celli Brinckeerhoff Abady and Chandra as the new lawyers representing the estate in the lawsuit.

#US Knife Laws
Choose Your State
How the US Justice System Works
The United States was founded under the principals of federalism. Under federalism, governing powers are divided between the federal government as well as the state governments. For states existed before the founding of the US, the writers of the Constitution respected the state s authority by limiting federal powers to only those expressly stated within the Constitution. All other governing powers are, therefore, state powers.
For knife law, the only federal law is theВ Switchblade Knife Act of 1958 as well as the 2009 amendment to the act (seeВ 15 U.S.C. В§1244). The federal knife law only applies to individuals who are traveling internationally as well as between states. If you reside in a federal district (see Washington D.C. knife laws ), the federal law is the only law that governs knives for you. If you live in one of the 50 states, the federal law would only apply to you if
