CalSouthern’s Online Law Degree Programs: a Closer Look

California Southern University’s online law degree programs are designed to be flexible and convenient, accommodating the busy schedules of the mature, non-traditional, working student. Since CalSouthern's School of Law offers all its courses online, students can study at their own pace, without compromising their personal and professional obligations. With monthly course starts, you can begin working toward your online law degree immediately.

But don’t confuse “flexible and convenient” with “easy.” CalSouthern’s online law degree programs are challenging and academically rigorous. You’ll be using the same legal case books and materials as those used at brick-and-mortar law schools across the country. To succeed, you’ll need to devote significant time to study; online law degree programs demand self-discipline and dedication.

At CalSouthern, however, you won’t be alone. You’ll have the support of the law school faculty, administration, and staff every step of the way. Even the deans will be available to provide guidance and encouragement. It’s what distinguishes CalSouthern from other online law schools and it’s something we take great pride in. CalSouthern offers two online law degree programs. The Master of Science in Law (MSL) program is designed for those interested in studying law on a post-graduate (master’s) level, but who are not interested becoming an attorney. The law pervades every aspect of business and society, and many executives and professionals would benefit greatly in their careers from an online MSL, whether they are entrepreneurs or corporate leaders, mediators, litigation support professionals, engineers, human resources executives, health care professionals or those interested in advocacy, policy, or international relations.

The Juris Doctor (JD) degree program is intended primarily for those looking to practice law as an attorney. The California Southern University School of Law is registered as an unaccredited correspondence law school with the Committee of Bar Examiners (CBE) of the State Bar of California. This allows graduates of the JD program who have complied with Title 4, Division 1 of the Rules of the State Bar of California (Admissions Rules) to sit for the California Bar Exam.
