If you choose to attend law school online it is very important that you verify the reputation of the school as well as its accreditation. In this section you will find links to various sites that provides information regarding accreditation of a school.

Please note that as of 2010, Standard 309 of the ABA states "no law schools that provide a J.D. degree completely via distance education are approved by the ABA".

Standard 306: Distance Education sets out the parameters for earning credit for study offered through distance education. Currently, no law schools that provide a J.D. degree completely via distance education are approved by the ABA. Earning an education completely via distance education may drastically limit your ability to sit for the bar in many states.

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) database lists more than 7,700 degree-granting and non-degree-granting institutions and more than 18,700 programs that are accredited by United States accrediting organizations that have been recognized either by CHEA or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or both. Each accrediting organization�s list of institutions or programs is prefaced by a brief description of the accredited status of the institutions or programs on the list and the year for which the list is accurate.

The DETC Accrediting Commission defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence in distance education institutions. The Commission is dedicated to fostering quality assurance, protection of the rights of the students and institutional self-improvement through voluntary accreditation via peer evaluation. DETC accreditation aims to instill public confidence in DETC institutions' missions, goals, performances, and resources through rigorous application and peer-developed accreditation standards.
