#K-8 Program

From start to finish, excellence and support come as standard equipment.

K 12 's comprehensive K-8 program—delivered in collaboration with K 12 partner schools—provides young minds with a learning environment like no other. We combine dynamic curriculum, teaching and support, a strong community, and special services into powerful, effective schooling, making the total K 12 experience greater than the sum of the parts.

Dynamic Curriculum

We offer 75 online courses in seven subjects: Language Arts/English, History, Math, Science, Music, Art and World Languages. These are developed from the ground up with rich, challenging and engaging content, designed specifically for online delivery and individualized learning.

It's not all online : You'll also receive boxes of traditional materials, including award-winning textbooks, CDs, videos, and hands-on materials that complement online learning. The combination of interactive online lessons with offline materials cater to varied learning styles, allowing the widest variety of students the opportunity to master lesson objectives. It's all part of a unique, patented methodology that K 12 has designed for educators, parents and students.

The program is delivered through an easy to use, robust Online School (OLS) with the tools and technology to manage your account, lesson plans, attendance and schedule, and to communicate with teachers.

Superb Teaching and Support

  • Enrollment counselors guide you through the enrollment, placement, and registration process.
  • A state-certified teacher is assigned to each student and directs the Learning Coach (generally, a parent) with day-to-day instruction. In K-8, each student is typically assigned to one teacher who manages an Individualized Learning Plan, monitors progress, and focuses on each student's individual problem areas.
  • A parent or learning coach facilitates progress through daily lessons.
  • Customer and technical support representatives are committed to ensuring that your questions get answered.

Critical Academic Services

You'll appreciate the comprehensive orientation we've put together to get you and your student off to a successful start with orientation training, Q A sessions, peer-mentoring, and more.

  • Scantron Diagnostic Assessments (grades 3–8) in English and Math pinpoint proficiency levels, guide the creation of your student's Individualized Learning Plan, and allows K 12 and you to measure progress over the school year
  • An Individualized Learning Plan for each student is designed to outline academic objectives, document strengths and challenges, and to sequence the student's course work for maximum success
  • Our Advanced Learner Program comes with special enrichment such as clubs and unique learning events, enriched courses, as well as enhanced training for teachers
  • Special Education programs are also offered by many of our partner schools

A Dynamic Global Community, Online and Offline

  • There are local community activities such as parent booster clubs, museum trips, student clubs. school activities, picnics and more.
  • You can participate in national K 12 school events such as clubs, the K 12 Art Competition, Operation Lemonade, and the K 12 Booster Program .

More About Parent/ Learning Coach and Teacher Roles

In K-8, the parent (or other responsible adult), working in conjunction with the teacher, serves as a learning coach to your student, helping facilitate progress through the daily lessons and working to modify the pace and schedule according to your child's needs.

  • Parents of children in grades K–6 can expect to spend 3–5 hours per day supporting their child's education
  • In grades 7–8, learning coach time typically decreases to about 2 hours per day as your child becomes more independent
  • You can expect that your child will spend 5–6 hours per day on coursework and homework, which most parents believe is just right.

Although parents play the role of learning coach for their students in managing the schedule and ensuring the student is completing work at a reasonable pace, they are never alone in the education process. The teacher communicates with you via e-mail, telephone, online Web meetings, or even face-to-face in many cases. Teachers remain constantly involved to monitor progress, ensure mastery, and develop specific intervention plans when a child is struggling. The teacher manages all facets of the instructional experience.

We're Behind You All the Way

If you're like most parents, your excitement about taking an active role in your children's education is probably mixed with a little apprehension. After all, few parents are also subject-matter experts. We understand this and have specifically designed our program to give you the tools, skills, and support you need to act as your children's coach.

  • Suggested lesson plans are provided to you each week, which update automatically as your child progresses.
  • You can vary the lesson plan to accommodate your child's pace or abilities: for instance, some kids do better when they can concentrate their Math studies for longer hours per day but fewer days per week.
  • Other parents use their children's favorite subject as a reward to give the child a break periodically from tougher subjects.
  • Or, you may need to take a day off or modify the schedule to accommodate a child's outside pursuits.
  • Our online scheduling and management tools make it easy to move things around while ensuring your child stays on track.
