Why Study Law at Trinity College Dublin?

The School of Law, Trinity Colllege Dublin is strongly committed to maintaining and further developing its reputation for rigorous legal scholarship and research, both in Ireland and internationally. the School is widely recognised as providing a liberal environment where independent thinking is encouraged and the promotion of the ideals of social inclusion and equality are paramount. We seek to serve society through education, research and public service and to promote standards of excellence in all its activities. In addition, the School of Law is home to one of Ireland's leading legal periodicals, the Dublin University Law Journal, and to the Trinity College Law Review published by the student members of the College's Law Society.

The School of Law, Trinity College Dublin attracts students of the highest calibre and currently has a student population of approximately 800 undergraduates and 170 post-graduates on its five undergraduate degree programmes, Law. Law and French. Law and German. Law and Business and Law and Political Science and five postgraduate programmes. It is ideally situated on the historic campus of Trinity College Dublin in the city centre, close to the courts and the Oireachtas.

The core legal modules are studied during the Freshman years (first and second), giving students an important understanding of the Irish legal system before they enter the Sophister (third and fourth) years. Sophister students choose their modules from a range of over twenty options. Senior Sophister students may opt to write a research dissertation in place of one of the law modules and this research option provides students with an opportunity to research a particular area of law in depth.

It should be noted that none of these degrees entitles a person to practise law as a barrister or solicitor without further study. However students who would like to pursue careers in the legal profession will have the opportunity to study all of the subjects required by the professional bodies in Ireland.
