#Piracy Under International Law
Introduction
Acts of piracy threaten maritime security by endangering, in particular, the welfare of seafarers and the security of navigation and commerce. These criminal acts may result in the loss of life, physical harm or hostage-taking of seafarers, significant disruptions to commerce and navigation, financial losses to shipowners, increased insurance premiums and security costs, increased costs to consumers and producers, and damage to the marine environment. Pirate attacks can have widespread ramifications, including preventing humanitarian assistance and increasing the costs of future shipments to the affected areas.
The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) provides the framework for the repression of piracy under international law, in particular in its articles 100 to 107 and 110. The Security Council has repeatedly reaffirmed that international law, as reflected in the United Nations Conventi

Jupiterimages/Getty Images.
This week s U.S. Supreme Court argument about the constitutionality of the Arizona immigration law is a classic showdown on states rights. Arizona argues that it has the right to impose identification checks and other measures within its sovereign borders, while the federal government argues that immigration policy ought not to be patchwork. But immigration policy is not merely patchwork across U.S. states with so-called immigration havens in New York and draconian laws in Arizona and Alabama it is patchwork with respect to countries as well.
Many countries sending immigrants to the United States and asking that America welcome those immigrants the

#Immigration Detention and Asylum Seekers
Immigration Detention and Asylum Seekers
For many years Australians have seen rapid changes in the laws and policies governing Australia’s approach to irregular migration and to the treatment of those seeking asylum.
The challenges posed by irregular migration are significant and currently occupy a prominent place in public and parliamentary debates.
The existing laws are complex and have been the subject of frequent amendment that impacts on the rights of those seeking protection in Australia and on the mechanisms of Australia’s immigration system.
As the peak body representing the legal profession in Australia, the Law Council of Australia is uniquely placed to assist the community to understand the legal principles that apply to the development of laws and policies in this area.
For this reason, the Law Council has developed an Asylum Seeker Policy that sets out the rule of law principles and hum

In almost every study conducted, where law abiding citizens are allowed to be armed and there are lots of them, crime rates go down. Why does government not understand this? The truth is in most instances they do, at least the hardcore anti-gun crowd. They know exactly what they are doing.
However, I do believe there is a portion of the anti-gun crowd that are simply afraid of guns for whatever reason. I assume they are much like some people I know, in that they have never fired a gun, handled one, or actually been around people who responsibly carry a weapon. To them, I say, "Get over your fear, by gaining knowledge: first hand knowledge."
But getting back to the issue of government, in cities where there are strict gun control laws, crime increases. It's quite simple actually. The people with guns are either government or criminals. In some case, they end up being the same, as we have seen in recent months in regards to Chicago.
The law abiding citizen want

Once the United States won the second World War, it sought to standardize business practices worldwide, especially in war-torn Europe. Legal standards were put in place by the American-dominated trading system that sought to create a global regime of free trade using the U.S. dollar as the base currency. Only a major international power such as the postwar U.S. could have made this trade regime work.
International business law has several sources for basic legislation. Primarily, major financial institutions that back groups such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are major legislators of basic business practices. In addition, regional organizations such as the European Union, the Arab League, and the Association of East Asian Nations are also sources of international law and practice in business. Powerful states such as the U.S. oil producing states and China also have a important role to play in shaping international business legislation. Ultimately, law

Definition of Admiralty Law
Admiralty law, also called maritime law, is a combination of U.S. and international law that covers all contracts, torts, injuries or offenses that take place on navigable waters. Admiralty law traditionally focused on oceanic issues, but it has expanded to cover any public body of water, including lakes and rivers. These laws largely cover interactions between two or more ships, the ship captain's obligations to the crew and passengers, and the rights of crew members, as well as other legal issues.
Federal district courts usually hear all admiralty cases, but states may also hear. Courts apply special rules and legal principles to admiralty cases.
Terms to Know
- Admiralty Court - A court, usually a federal court, that has jurisdiction over admiralty cases and that applies the special rules and laws of maritime law

God wanted only whites to eat at Bessinger s six Piggie Park barbecue joints; so His servant Maurice took that fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which in 1968 decided that his religious freedom argument was patently frivolous.

Three Jewish men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, chose to follow their consciences, standing up against the king and his edict. Thus began a standoff that remains famous even to this day (see Daniel 3 ).
Unfortunately, we are seeing the same situation repeating itself today.
The Pope is calling for the world to acknowledge and honor Sunday as a day of rest. Legislation that will force the world to worship and rest on Sunday would be the ideal solution. There are many voices clamoring to fulfill exactly such a goal, using the economy, the environment, and even the family as reasons to legislate Sunday rest.
Another standoff is on the horizon. Those who refuse to give up the Biblical seventh-day Sabbath will face trials as tough as the furnace faced by Shadrach and his companions. However, we can hold fast hope, knowing that the God who spared the Israelite men from the fiery furnace is coming again soon.

#Indiana lawmakers try to quiet firestorm surrounding new law
Indiana lawmakers try to quiet firestorm surrounding new law Associated Press Monday, March 30, 2015
TOM DAVIES
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence called off public appearances Monday and sports officials planned an Indy Welcomes All campaign ahead of this weekend's NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis as lawmakers scrambled to quiet the firestorm over a new law that has much of the country portraying Indiana as a state of intolerance.
Republican legislative leaders said they are working on adding language to the religious-objections law to make it clear that the measure does not allow discrimination against gays and lesbians. As signed by Pence last week, the measure prohibits state laws that substantially burden a person's ability to follow his or her religious beliefs. The definition of person includes religious institutions, businesses and associations.

A Juris Doctorate degree is considered to be a professional law degree. It provides thorough academic training for those who are interested in becoming lawyers. The Juris Doctorate is approved by all American law schools, and is a prerequisite before one can take the Bar exam. The degree has replaced the Bachelor of Law degree that was its official predecessor. Just like any other degree, there are certain conditions that must be met before a student can earn his or her J.D. First and foremost, a minimal B grade average must be maintained and shown from previous educational experience (college transcripts, etc). In addition, one must have scored at the 70th percentile or above when they took the LSAT (Law School Admission Test). In addition, most law schools also look at other factors such as previous life experience, the ability to write thoroughly, and other things as well. Most students earning their Juris Doctorate must arrive as their first experience in law school. In other wo

When it comes to the Juris Doctorate, do you get what you pay for?
That's a loaded question, obviously. Some might argue that with current job market. no one is getting what they paid for. That's why, if you're looking at joining the Class of 2017, the cost of your degree should be one of your biggest considerations (right next to graduates' success in the job market).
What are the five cheapest schools? And the cheapest schools worth attending ?
Quick note: all data is courtesy of the ever-useful Law School Transparency's Non-Discounted Cost estimates, which are the projected debt owned at first loan payment. The assumptions, in regards to interest and tuition hikes, are available on LST's score reports site.
Also, this is obvious but is worth repeating: in-state schools are often cheaper. These are the non-resident costs for all schools.

#Police: 4 Killed in NY Wine Country When Pickup Hits Limo - ABC News
Four women at a bachelorette party in New York wine country were killed Saturday and two others were seriously injured after a limousine was hit by a pickup truck on the eastern end of Long Island, law enforcement officials said.
The limousine was leaving a winery and making a U-turn at a blinking traffic signal to head west when the pickup collided with it, Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley told Newsday. The driver of the pickup hit the brakes before the crash but could not stop in time, Flatley said.
He said all four people killed were women. Their names were not immediately released, but police said they were from the New York City area.
A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the details and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the pickup slammed into the side of the limo. The crash occurred around 6 p.m. along Route 48 in Cutchogue, on

#Inheritance Law - Law Center
What are Inheritance Laws?
Inheritance Laws are those statutes and regulations affecting who is entitled to receive what from the estate of a deceased relative. Some relatives, such as spouses and children, have a right to claim an inheritance and can even do so despite the express terms of a will.
Spouses
In most circumstances, the law prohibits leaving a spouse completely out of a will. In states that follow a community property system (Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington,Wisconsin, and Alaska) each spouse automatically owns half of what they both earned during the marriage unless they have a written agreement to the contrary. As a result, either spouse can do what he or she likes with his or her half-share of the community property and his or her separate property. Everywhere else, while there is no rule that property acquired during marriage is automatically owned

Like any other graduate degree, a Master of Laws (LLM) requires a prior degree in this case a Juris Doctor (JD). There are several important differences between the two degrees, the most basic being that a JD is a professional degree that enables individuals to practice law, while an LLM is an advanced graduate degree, which denotes expertise in a specific area of law, or knowledge of American law for foreign law school graduates. An LLM on its own does not enable someone to practice law.
Applicants to LLM degree programs are usually required to submit their law school transcripts, a personal statement, letters of references (varies for different LLM programs), and sometimes a passing score on an English proficiency examination such as IELTS or TOEFL. The infamous LSAT a standardized test used by law schools as a index for admissions to JD programs is not used for LLM admissions.
Once admitted, students working towards LLM degrees should expect to go through 22 to 28

A 9-year-old Louisiana boy found a special way to show his respect for law enforcement.
Jayden Witsell has made it his mission to hand out letters to officers one-by-one, along with a St. Michael coin for protection.
Jayden and an officer whose life he touched, Joe McMahan, appeared on "Fox and Friends Weekend" today.
"People don't really care about police officers, and I want to have more respect for them," Jayden explained. "When I heard about those two Hattiesburg officers getting shot, that's when I started."
McMahan, who works for the Slidell Police Department, revealed that he was driving one day when Jayden's mother actually pulled him over.
"I see her flashing her brights, and I'm thinking it's a citizen wanting directions or something," McMahan said. "So I pulled over. And at that time, that's when Jayden got out of the car and asked if he could give me something."
