#Tax Law - Guide to Taxation Law.

What is Tax law? It covers the rules, policies and laws that oversee the tax process, which involves charges on estates, transactions, property, income, licenses and more by the government. Taxation also includes duties on imports from foreign countries and all compulsory levies imposed by the government upon individuals for benefit of the state.

The intricate body of tax law covers payment of taxes to a minimum of four levels of government, either directly or indirectly. Indirect taxes are assessed against products and services that are meant to be consumed, but are paid to an intermediary. For example, when you buy coffee at a local corner store, the retailer charges you tax on your coffee, which he/she subsequently pays to the government. Direct taxes are those you pay directly to the government and are imposed against things like land or real property, personal property, and income.

There is a seemingly endless list of en ... Read more »

#Surrogacy - Legal issues around surrogacy

Seek legal advice

Surrogacy involves complicated legal issues and we recommend that you seek your own legal advice before making any decisions.

It is also advisable to receive counselling before starting the surrogacy process, to help you think about all the questions involved.

On this page:

The rights of the surrogate

You should bear in mind that the surrogate has the legal right to keep the child, even if it is not genetically related to her.

Surrogacy arrangements are not legally enforceable, even if a contract has been signed and the expenses of the surrogate have been paid.

The surrogate will be the legal mother of the child unless or until parenthood is transferred to the intended mother through a parental order or adoption after the birth of the child. This is because, in law, the woman who gives birth is always treated as the mother.

What if the surrogate mother ... Read more »

#Surrogacy in Ukraine

Welcome!

We get a lot of inquiries concerning a possibility of the implementation of a surrogacy program in Ukraine for single people and people who are not married officially.

For those who are interested we make public an official response on this issue given by the Ministry of Health Care of Ukraine http://www.moz.gov.ua/ua/portal/ to an inquiry made by the lawyers of the law firm. The original text in Ukrainian can be found here .

#Surrogate babies: Where can you have them, and is it legal? BBC News

Surrogacy laws vary from country to country, which can leave children vulnerable

The case of Gammy, a baby with Down's syndrome who was born to a Thai surrogate mother and allegedly left behind by the intended Australian parents, has caused international controversy. Where do people go to arrange for surrogate babies, and is it legal?

What is surrogacy?

Surrogacy is where a woman becomes pregnant with the intention of handing over the child to someone else after giving birth. Generally, she carries the baby for a couple or parent who cannot conceive a child themselves - they are known as "intended parents".

There are two forms of surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother's egg is used, making her the genetic mother. In gestational surrogacy, the egg is provided by the intended mother or a donor. The egg is fertilised through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and then ... Read more »

#Tarlton Law Library - Law Dictionary Collection - online exhibit

The Tarlton Law Library began to collect early law dictionaries systematically in 1988 to support the Oxford Law Dictionary Project at The University of Texas School of Law. After the project ended the collection continued to grow. The largest single acquisition came in October 2001, when the library acquired 21 dictionaries at the Birmingham Law Society auction in London, thanks to a generous gift from Joseph D. Jamail (UT Law Class of 1953).

The collection focuses on law dictionaries from the Americas, the British Isles, and Western Europe. Among the over 200 editions are the Tarlton’s Millionth Volume – an early edition of the first English law dictionary ever printed – John Rastell, Exposiciones terminorum legum anglorum (London, c. 1530), and the oldest book in the collection, Vocabularius utriusque juris (Strasbourg, 1476), and its Million- -First Volume, Vocabularius utri ... #The 10 Most Underrated Law Schools - Bloomberg Business

There is a strong chance you have never heard of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. The Raleigh, N.C. school is not prestigious enough to be ranked among U.S. News and World Report 's best law schools, and it enrolls only about 400 students at a time. Yet a new law school ranking suggests that most of us are probably underestimating Campbell.

Alfred Brophy, a law professor at the University of North Carolina, published a paper online on Sunday that grades law schools on just three measures of success. Brophy’s simple accounting looks at students’ employment outcomes, their median scores on the Law School Admission Test, and the number of citations that a school’s law review receives. By distilling the rankings down to these metrics, Brophy says he can get at the essence of a law school’s worth: how well it prepares its students for the profession they have chosen.

UMass Law School Cuts Incoming Class By 33%, Faces $3.8 Million Deficit

  • UMass Law School Cuts Incoming Class By 33%, Faces $3.8 Million Deficit ">
  • The University of Massachusetts School of Law has a mounting deficit, which hit $3.8 million last fiscal year, a gap expected to widen next year. UMass Dartmouth is picking up the bill for now, that school said.

The law school for now has scrapped plans to increase enrollment and instead decided to cut the size of its incoming class by a third, to 72 students. In addition, the school is not fully accredited by the American Bar Association, a generally accepted stamp of approval in the field.

Dean Mary Lu Bilek says the UMass Law School’s goal is “making sure that not only people born with silver spoons in their mouths are making the law.”.

    #Texas Marijuana Laws

    Overview of Texas Marijuana Laws

In Texas, possession of even a tiny amount of marijuana can land you in jail; in fact, anything less than 2 ounces carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. But penalties are even more serious for possessing concentrates such as hash oil, which is charged as a felony and can result in up to two years in state prison. Some court districts in Texas have drug diversion programs that allow certain first-time offenders to complete a rehabilitation program instead of serving a prison sentence.

The sale of just 7 grams (roughly one-quarter ounce) of cannabis also carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and a possible $2,000 fine. But selling more than 50 pounds of the herb (a felony) can land you in prison for 99 years, with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years. Selling any amount of marijuana to a minor is a felony, with a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Our office rankings include the following markets: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, DC.

What you'll read next are the most effective marketing techniques. These tips are based on scientific research that I have conducted where we asked 377 marketing partners and marketing professionals in the professional services fields what they did that worked. I'm going to cover 10 particular points.

Number one: You have to spend at least 2.5 percent of your gross revenues on marketing. Otherwise, you're just pretending to market. That 2.5 percent does not include the salaries of any of the people that you may have hired to perform the work. The abortion ban does not apply to an abortion performed on an unborn child who has a severe fetal abnormality. These are the only rankings to incorporate the latest ABA employment data concerning the class of 2014. The relative quality of schools is a function of how they deliver on the promise of gainful legal employment.

    #THE LAW OF INERTIA

T he law of inertia states that:

A body will preserve its velocity and direction so long as no force in its motion's direction acts on it.

For example : a package thrown out of an airplane will continue to move at the speed of the airplane on the horizontal axis (in the direction of the airplane's movement). Since the law of gravity acts on the package (a vertical downward axis), the package will gather speed along the vertical axis, but on the horizontal axis its speed will remain equal to that of the airplane.

(In this explanation we have left out the force of air-resistance).
