#Law School Outlines: What They re For And How To Make An Outline
To start with, it is hard to merely describe law school outlines. You need to see one for yourself. So click here [link to be inserted later] to see one of mine from years ago (I got an A in this class) and return to improve your understanding.
Law school outlines have existed since. well, it's not clear. Certainly they existed in 1973--the movie The Paper Chase mentions outlines repeatedly. One character works relentlessly on his lengthy and "perfect" outline, calling students he doesn't like "pimp." Like that's a bad thing.
Get Top Grades in Law School
it's when they enter lock-down mode, where you see many men growing grotesque "exam beards." Creating law school outlines is one of many lemming like activities that law students in engage in--everyone does it but most don't know what they're doing or why.
So, what are law school outlines good for? They are schemat

JD programs are facing dwindling applicants and a lousy job market for their grads.
Dorothy A. Brown is a professor of tax law at Emory University School of Law.
Joel van Houdt for The Washington Post)
“March madness” holds a different meaning in the legal world. While most of the country looks forward to fast breaks and Cinderella upsets, law schools are bracing themselves for another type of madness: the annual carnage left by the U.S. News World Report rankings.
This year’s rankings drop on March 10. to be followed by the usual chaos. Deans at highly placed law schools will issue news releases; deans with less fortunate rankings will have their already hectic lives turned upside down. The lucky ones will get fired. The unlucky ones will have to deal with the fallout. A flood of e-mails. Emergency faculty meetings. Ad Hoc Committees on Law School

All smiles now: But Jasmine Moore still needs more treatment
A young law student had her front teeth punched out during a sickening attack at a nightclub.

And her attacker, Summer Richardson was this week slammed by a sheriff who described her attitude to the offence as “nothing short of appalling”.

#Law School Survival - How To Build Law School Outlines
If you haven't done so already, refer to "Write Your Own Outlines! " for an overview of the benefits of building an an outline from scratch. I am not just advertising my own article here, I honestly wish that all students in all levels of education would build their own outlines instead of obtaining them form another source; the benefits of doing so are substantial.
Look at the table of contents of your casebooks. You will see headings and subheadings. That is how to start your outline. Before beginning your semester, create a word document for each of your classes and saving them to a folder labeled with the year and semester, such as "Spring 2012". For each document, open your professor's syllabus and make a heading for each class scheduled. Then go through each assignment and make a subheadings in your document for notes and each case assigned to be read.
Once you do this, you will have a nice format with wh

Last week, Young China Watchers asked a question that many who study China s legal development have been grappling with: how to gel the Chinese government s call for greater judicial authority, announced at October s Fourth Plenum, with its current crackdown on anti-corruption and civil society. China Law Policy was fortunate to be invited to comment on this important question along with Jeremy Daum, senior research fellow at the Yale China Law Center. founder of China Law Translate. and recent participant in a China Law Policy interview .
While we both reached the conclusion that these two phenomena a call for judicial reform and the current crackdown on civil society are not mutually exclusive, we came at it from very different directions.
Jeremy Daum: Far from constraining the Party’s power, these legal reforms are designed to reinforce the legitimacy of Party rule by creating more complete and effective mechanisms for the

UMass Law: of Sterling Vision and Silver Spoons
Once upon a time, long ago, UMass Law was a stable, rising law school in a sea of resizing, confused law schools:
"Other schools are losing enrollment and decreasing their academic indicators," Bilek said. "To be stable and be increasing academic quality, at a time when nationally legal education is trying to figure out what to do, I would say is where we want to be.
"Every law school in the country has to resize, unless you started out the right size. We just came in at that moment where we could start out at the right size. That was Dean Mary Lu Bilek, quoted in an article published September 21, 2014. And there's more!
If and when UMass Law is granted full accreditation, Bilek said she'd like to double enrollment. You have to admire the moxie here. With dozens of public law schools, and numerous

Underage Drinking Laws are laws that attempt to prevent minors from drinking alcohol.
Because the national minimum drinking age is 21 years old, most states consider anyone under 21 to be a minor for the purpose of underage drinking laws. However, some states only consider people under 17 to be minors. Despite this conflict, in all states it is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.
Underage drinking laws impose strict rules on minors in relation to alcohol. Under these laws, it is illegal for minors to:
- Possess alcohol
- Consume alcohol
- Purchase or attempt to purchase alcohol
- Possess a fake ID or otherwise misrepresent their age
- Drive with even a negligible BAC (the amount varies by state)
Underage drinking laws do not just affect minors. They also prohibit anyone else from contributing to underage drinking unless the minor is the person s ward or child. Thus, it is illegal for any

#Law students: seven ways to motivate yourself
Sponsored by:
“What’s the point? I won’t make it anyway”; “Why would law firms pick me over others?”; “I’m never going to get a 2:1 or a first”; “I’m not intelligent enough for this”.
These statements sometimes run through my mind and if you’re a law student, you may have had similar thoughts. I’ve never been the most intelligent student or someone who just “gets it”. I take my time and ask questions until I understand.
I was once on the verge of being suspended from school, with no motivation and poor grades. With little hope for the future, I hadn’t considered university an option. But after passing my GCSEs and A-levels, I began to believe in myself and was accepted to study law at the University of Portsmouth.
My first year was overwhelming and even now, entering my third year, I still have negative thoughts. But it’s natural to feel inadequate and wish you had the same grades or as much work exper

David Schnurman is CEO of Lawline, the leading provider of online Continuing Legal Education (CLE) in the country. His company recently celebrated over 100,000 attorneys on its website with over 2,000,000 courses completed last year.
LI: The same year you graduated from law school you started Lawline. How did the decision to go into LegalTech win-out over a more traditional legal path?
DS: After I graduated college I worked in online advertising sales for 4 years. I then decided to go to law school because I wanted to be a professional. However, once in school and after interning for a couple of law firms, I concluded that being an attorney was not much different than being in sales. The main difference was in addition to selling yourself, you also had to do all the legal work. I also realized that I did not want to start at the bottom again.

Complaints, concerns, and questions about ERISA laws should be directed to your local office.
The protective laws under ERISA only apply to private employers (non-government) that offer employer-sponsored health insurance coverage and other benefit plans to employees. ERISA does not require employers to offer plans; it only sets rules for benefits that an employer chooses to offer.
ERISA laws do not apply to privately purchased, individual insurance policies or benefits.
According to TASC, a well-known third-party plan administrator, ERISA regulates and sets standards and requirements for:
- Conduct: ERISA rules regulate the conduct for managed care (i.e. HMOs) and other fiduciaries (the person financially responsible for the plan s administration).
- Reporting and Accountability: ERISA requires detailed reporting and accountability to the federal government.

#Laws Enforced by EEOC
This law makes it illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex. The law also makes it illegal to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit. The law also requires that employers reasonably accommodate applicants' and employees' sincerely held religious practices, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the operation of the employer's business.
This law amended Title VII to make it illegal to discriminate against a woman because of pregnancy, childbirth, or a medical condition related to pregnancy or childbirth. The law also makes it illegal to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit.

Exponents: Basic Rules (page 1 of 5)
Exponents are shorthand for repeated multiplication of the same thing by itself. For instance, the shorthand for multiplying three copies of the number 5 is shown on the right-hand side of the equals sign in (5)(5)(5) = 5 3. The exponent , being 3 in this example, stands for however many times the value is being multiplied. The thing that's being multiplied, being 5 in this example, is called the base .
This process of using exponents is called raising to a power , where the exponent is the power . The expression 5 3 is pronounced as five, raised to the third power or five to the third . There are two specially-named powers: to the second power is generally pronounced as squared , and to the third power is generally pronounced as cubed . So 5 3 is commonly pronounced as five cubed .
When we deal with numbers, we usually just simplify; we'd rather deal with 27 than with 3 3 . But with variables,

#Lawyers levy? Michael Gove threatens to make rich law firms pay for legal aid
Michael Gove has provoked a row with some of London’s leading lawyers, after he demanded that they contributed “much more” to ensure justice was available to all.
Gove, the new justice secretary, said those who made the most financially from the legal system would be required to provide more free expertise.
But his proposal to improve a “two-nation” justice system prompted complaints about the impact of legal aid cuts imposed by his predecessor, Chris Grayling.
In his first significant speech since taking up the post, Gove told the business thinktank the Legatum Institute that “those who have benefited financially from our legal culture need to invest in its roots” and argued that “more could – and should – be done by the most successful in the legal profession to help protect access to justice for all”.
The minister did not spell out how such contributions would be extrac

Immigration Lawyers in the USA Other Countries

When a student decides to come to America to pursue an education, he or she often does so with the thought of remaining here to pursue a dream. Unfortunately, many do not realize that it can be quite difficult to obtain a different legal status and the right to work like a naturalized citizen. So, how can one remain in America after finishing school?
Once known pejoratively as anchor babies, the children of foreign nationals born on American soil have traditionally had a right to automatic citizenship. As a result, immediate family members would seek their own citizenship by virtue of the close relationship. But, after years of debate on the topic of immigration reform, are anchor babies still legal?
It is quite common for people to want to help their relatives

#Laws of Simplicity
This is from a June 07, 2005 post on my original Simplicity blog that a reader found still exists on the Wayback Machine here .
Brand is an inoperable asset for the customer. It doesn t make your product work any better. Although it does makes a potential consumer desire your product more.
Is it cheaper to improve a product s reliability and functionality? Or is it cheaper to improve a product s desirability? Considering the marginal costs of additional research and development, combined with production, testing, assurance, and so forth, the answer is fairly clear. Investing in advertising is a cost-effective way to increase the profit for an existing product. If the campaign is any good of course.
What determines good ? Is it the copy? Is it the visuals? Is it the celebrity that has been chosen to be the head cheerleader? Seems like there are tons of subjective variables to consider that will ultimately define success or failure

On Monday, the state Superior Court judge ruled Indiana s so-called right-to-work law is unconstitutional. The controversial law requires unions to represent workers who do not pay dues, stripping them of crucial funds and effectively crippling workers ability to negotiate. According to Judge John Sedia, this provision also goes against the Indiana constitution s ban on delivering services without just compensation.
Though conservatives claim these right-to-work laws boost the economy by attracting businesses, most workers suffer. The Economic Policy Institute found that the union-busting laws do nothing to create jobs while reducing all workers wages by roughly $1,500 a year regardless of whether or not they belong to the union. Workers in anti-union states are also far less likely to receive health insurance or pensions through their employers.
Indiana was the first state in the U.S. industrial belt to require unions to support non-union workers, closely followed
