#How Law Schools Determine Whom to Admit
How Law Schools Determine Whom to Admit
Law schools consider a variety of factors in admitting their students. The two factors that can be applied objectively to all candidates and are most predictive of success in law school prior academic performance and the LSAT score are fundamental to the admission process (PDF) .
The most difficult admission decisions are those regarding candidates who are neither so well qualified nor so unsatisfactory as to present a clear-cut case for acceptance or denial. These applicants constitute the majority of the applicant pool at many law schools. However, if you assess your credentials accurately, your likelihood of admission to an ABA-accredited law school is strong.

#How Employment Discrimination Laws Protect Cancer Survivors
Learn more about your legal rights relating to employment:
In most cases, no. Under federal law and most state laws, an employer has the right to know only if you are able to do the job at the time you apply for it. A prospective employer may not ask you about your health history unless you have a visible disability and the employer could reasonably believe that it affects your current ability to perform that job. An employer may ask you detailed questions about your health only after you have been offered a job.
The ADA and many state laws prohibit discrimination based on genetic information relating to diseases such as cancer. For example, an employer may not ask you for the results of a genetic test or treat you differently because of your genetic history.

Those who have faced financial hardship know how difficult it is to deal with debt. Fortunately for many debtors, bankruptcy can provide a way out. Bankruptcy is designed to give debtors a financial fresh start by eliminating most debts in one fell swoop. However, it isn't a walk in the park. In order to receive a debt discharge, debtors are typically required to make major sacrifices, such as liquidating their assets, or forfeiting a percentage of their income.
While there were a number of different federal bankruptcy laws in the past, the current Bankruptcy Code was enacted in 1978 and has been amended numerous times since. The Code provides several ways for debtors to eliminate their debts through bankruptcy. In this section, you'll find articles and resources on the different forms of bankruptcy, common issues that debtors face, getting legal help with bankruptcy, alternatives to filing, and more.

#How does the Louisiana legal system differ from the rest of the nation?
Cliff Gilley JD cum laude, Seattle University Class of 2000; Worked as a criminal prosecutor in King County, WA; Comments on Quora are not intended as legal advice nor should they be construed to create an attorney/client relationship. In short, I m not your lawyer - if you have a legal question, contact an attorney in your jurisdiction for a real answer.
The primary difference between Louisiana and other states is that Louisiana is a civil law state, whereas all other states in the US are common law states.
This is a very important and interesting distinction, and is a clear reflection of the French history that plays a very prominent part in the development of Louisiana and its legislative and judicial processes.
The primary difference between the two systems is that, under a civil law system, only those things that are explicitly outlined in the statutes of the s

#How Lawsuits Work
Introduction to How Lawsuits Work
You step in a puddle of spilled cooking oil in a grocery store and break three bones in your hand. You're a concert pianist. How can you recover your lost income?
Your landlord claims you broke several things in your apartment that you didn't pay for. You know they were broken when you moved in. The forms you signed when you moved in don't specifically mention those items. How do you keep from having to replace something you aren't responsible for?
Lawsuits are filed every day. In fact, according to an article on the Citizens for a Sound Economy Web site, there are more than 15 million civil cases processed annually in state courts alone, at a cost of over $1.8 billion. Although the number of product liability cases in 2000 was less than half of the number in 1997, the courts are still clogged with civil lawsuits. Most courts are trying to encourage people to settle their disputes out of court, and some

#How I - m Going to Law School for Free - The Billfold
I think it’s obvious by now that if the recession has taught us anything, it’s that student loans should be avoided like the plague. I doubt that anyone in 2006 would have foreseen that in 2013 there would be a massive, grassroots campaign to prevent an increase of 3.4% in student loan rates (most students probably didn’t even know what their loan rate was). The fantasy of a four-year degree being good enough to pay back large amounts of student loans is long gone and most college students are much more informed.
Yet, when it comes to law school, college students who previously fought for scholarships and protested tuition hikes suddenly decide to pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars for the chance to become a lawyer. Numerous mainstream publications. including the Billfold, have detailed the plight of the naïve law student who applied to law school wanting to change the world or establish a solidly middle

One nice thing that has developed with family law software are the programs that calculate child support. Child support software is used in every state to easily calculate accurate support payments quickly. This has saved attorneys and court staff countless hours of figuring and gives peace of mind because there are no errors. In recent years parents have been able to get these programs so that they can have peace of mind about their payments.
Along with the development of child support software, other programs have arisen that can help parents, attorneys and courts come up with an accurate child support amount. These programs calculate the time-share or the overnight percentage. The time-share percentage is the amount of time the child spends with each parent. This is nice figure for quick reference--it is easy for the parents or their lawyer to know how much time they have with the child at a glance. It is also an

#How Georgetown Law gets Uncle Sam to pay its students - bills - The Washington Post
By Dylan Matthews August 9, 2013 Follow @dylanmatt
The Georgetown University Law Center campus. (Georgetown)
Did you know that you can go to Georgetown Law absolutely free of charge? No, really. If you get in and commit to working for the government or for nonprofits, making $75,000 a year or less, for 10 years, you can get your JD absolutely free of charge. It's called the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), and it's a very good deal for students.
It's a very good deal for Georgetown, too — but not in the way the government intended. Georgetown has found a very clever way to exploit recent reforms to federal student loan programs so as to greatly reduce the price of law school for students without costing the school anything either.
Georgetown Law students who use LRAP use loans from Grad PLUS — the federal government's student loan program for grad

#How I got a free MBA in USA and saved 70 lakh rupees
The green lady you see in the background has been trying hard to woo Abinesh. She made multiple offers he couldn t resist.
One was worth $40,000 and another that was over $100,000 (70 lakh rupees) in the form of MBA scholarships to come an attend a leading MBA program, virtually gifting him a free MBA in USA.
A top ranked MBA in USA typically gets applicants who have 4-5 years pre-MBA work experience. Statistically, the odds start going down rapidly after a certain age + experience threshold.
So it was natural for Abinesh to target 1 year MBA courses in India like IIMA PGPX and IIMB EPGP, where his profile would have a better match.
But he also took a chance with a select few MBA programs in USA despite their track record for preferring younger candidates and ended up with a free MBA offer.

LinkedIn Influencer, John A. Byrne. published this post originally on LinkedIn .
What s an MBA degree really worth? And how much more money does an MBA from Harvard, Stanford or Wharton get you over a career than one from Texas A M, Ohio State, or the University of Iowa?
Those are questions that perplex and confound many who are deciding whether to get the degree and, if so, where to get it from. Not everyone can get into the most highly selective business schools. So many candidates have to face the question over whether it s worth getting the MBA from a second- or even third-tier school.

#How to Get In: Cornell Law School - US News
What can you do to set yourself apart in your application? Admissions officials have the answers.
апр 15, 2010
We posed questions to admissions officials at Cornell Law School regarding the application process, what they look for in applicants and what sets their school apart. These are their responses:
1. What can applicants do to set themselves apart from their peers?
At this point in their lives, most applicants don't really need to think of this as an objective. Our applicants typically have already distinguished themselves in college, graduate school, community involvement and/or work experience, and their records by themselves make each of them unique and interesting. Many times, if a person approaches a law school application as an exercise in setting oneself apart from peers, they end up doing things in the application that are contrived or unauthentic. This usually works against a

An executive public official, including a mayor of a city of the governor of the state, may declare a state of emergency. This declaration authorizes the release of disaster relief funds and activates certain agencies within the state's infrastructure, including the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Declaring a state of emergency doesn't have a direct affect on Pennsylvania labor law for private businesses. The government within the state may order a shutdown of all non-essential state and local personnel during an emergency situation. This would immediately suspend working hours for all local and state government employees until the emergency situation subsides.
The declaration of a state of emergency in Pennsylvania only changes at-will employment law in the state when the regulations of the declaration change public policy according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For example, if a state of emergency closes roads or temporarily establishes a curfew, these new r

And like most Americans, you may believe that insurance companies exist for the your benefit or for that of others like you who seek to protect hard-earned assets in the event of an accident, illness, natural disaster, or other unexpected loss. When the time comes that you need to make a claim, however, you may have to face the sad reality—the truth your agent never told you: the insurance company’s primary reason for existence is not to help those who have suffered losses recover; their main purpose is to turn profits for their investors. That means filling their coffers by collecting premiums month after month and then paying out the least amount they can get away with.

#How to Turn Your Law School Class Notes Into an Outline
Someone asked a very good question about our last post: 5 Things to Include in Your Law School Class Notes What do you do with your class notes when it s time to outline? If you ve taken useful notes, and broken them into usable chunks, do you even still need an outline?
Why You Still Need an Outline
So, here s the deal. Even if your class notes are really good, you still need to condense them. Why? Because you can t possibly memorize and use 100+ pages of information.
The goal of your outline (which might not be a traditional outline at all, and could be a collection of related study materials) is to consolidate everything.
Ideally, you want to move from 100+ pages of class notes to an outline of around 30 pages and then to a 1-2 page cheat sheet of some sort, which you can easily memorize (for open and closed book exams) and reference (if you have open book exam
