4. Remedies, including damages for personal injury and on death, and specific remedies where appropriate.

6. Vicarious liability and ‘non-delegable duties’.

7. Joint and several liability, and contribution between tortfeasors.

8. Occupiers’ liability.

9. Private nuisance and liability under the rule in Rylands v. Fletcher.

10. Liability for defective products.

11. Tortious liability for breach of statutory duty.

12. Trespass to the person and related matters.

13. Liability for animals.

14. Aims and adequacy of the law of tort.

Outline knowledge of the following topics is expected, but detailed knowledge of them is not required: the calculation of the measure of damages; trespass to land; claims against public bodies under the Human Rights Act.

The following topics are NOT included in the syllabus: defamation; malicious falsehood; deceit; public nuisance; passing-off and other forms of unfair competition; intentional economic torts; conversion and trespass to chattels; the Defective Premises Act 1972; police powers of arrest and search; the Crown Proceedings Act 1947; abuse of legal process and malicious prosecution; limitation of actions and time bar; the procedural aspects of tort claims.
