Community

The Saïd Business School offers a challenging and thought-provoking degree through an engaged community of faculty. As part of this full-time programme you will complete the GOTO (Global Opportunities Threats Oxford) Entrepreneurship course, a new school-wide community of learning to which MBA students, Executive MBA participants, alumni and faculty are invited to participate in a process of critical engagement with a fundamental and emerging global theme.

Assessment

The assessment regime is a flexible combination of final examinations, group and individual assignments, and practical work, subject to the constraint that at least 60% of marks should be allocated on an individual basis, and that not more than 20% is allocated to practical work. Teachers are encouraged to tailor assessment methods to most effectively achieve the desired learning outcomes. Assessment is performed at the end of each course. If you fail to achieve the required standard you have an opportunity to retake or resubmit the assessments the following term.

Integration of knowledge across functional areas is encouraged through the integrative nature of the Entrepreneurial Project and the Strategic Consulting Project.

You will be required to make regular presentations to teachers, examiners, and business practitioners, and, in some courses, these would be a required part of the assessment.

The careers service provides interview training, helps you to develop your networking skills, assists you in producing excellent CVs and ensures you are prepared for anything the job market can throw at you.

You will also have access to a select group of sector consultants who have experience of working for leading firms across a broad range of sectors including management consulting, finance, high tech, new ventures, media and communications, and diversified industry.

Saïd Business School Alumni Relations Office

The Oxford Business Alumni Network (OBA), the official alumni network of the University of Oxford Saïd Business School, was established in 1998 to provide a focus for Oxonians who have a special interest in the world of business. There are more than 12,000 OBA Network members living in 129 countries across the globe. The OBA Network is overseen by the Saïd Business School Alumni Relations Office.

The Oxford 1+1 MBA is a unique, two-year graduate experience that combines the depth of a specialised, one-year master’s degree with the breadth of a top-ranking, one-year MBA.

The Saïd Business School is one of the most modern, state-of-the-art business schools in the world. Facilities include four horseshoe-style lecture theatres where most classes take place and a 300 seat lecture theatre opened by Nelson Mandela in 2002 to cater for larger-scale lectures and events.

A key feature of the building is the provision of informal working areas. There are numerous open spaces throughout, including cloistered walkways and a large internal courtyard, all of which help to foster interaction between students, faculty and visitors.

The Sainsbury Library at the heart of the School has more than 30 public PCs and 100 networked study desks, a collection of course texts and general reading material spread over two well-appointed floors, and an impressive array of powerful electronic databases covering business, management and adjacent fields.

Specialist research centres at the Saïd Business School mirror the knowledge-intensive end of a creative economy. They are helping particular sectors to wrestle with the challenges they face and to discover new directions through research. These centres include the BT Centre for Major Programme Management, Novak Druce Centre for Professional Service Firms, and Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, amongst many others.

Funding

Over 900 fully-funded scholarships covering fees and a grant for living costs are available for new graduate students in 2015-16 from the University, our colleges and supporters. Information about the full range of funding available (including a search tool to help identify which scholarships you may be eligible for) can be found in the Fees and funding section.

The only thing you need to do to be considered for many of these scholarships is to apply to Oxford by the January deadline for your course. However, please note that some scholarships require additional application materials and may have different deadlines, so do make sure you check the application process for each scholarship carefully.

Divisional funding opportunities

Oxford hosts one of 21 Doctoral Training Centres accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). In 2015 approximately 60 ESRC studentships are available across the Social Sciences. Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded studentships are available for the Oxford Doctoral Training Partnership in Environmental Research and Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships are available through the AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership .
