Students wishing to transfer to Stanford Law must have completed their first year at an a member of the Association of American Law Schools and must complete the online application at the school s website ; the deadline is June 15, for Fall admission. In order to earn a Juris Doctor degree, a student must acquire 86 credits and complete requirements in ethics, writing, and professional skills. The first-year curriculum includes Civil Procedure, Contracts, Criminal Law, Torts, Legal Research and Writing I and II, Constitutional Law I, Property, and two to four electives. Students choose all courses during the second and third years of study. Stanford Law offers 20 formal joint degree programs in which students can earn a J.D. along with another professional degree (Master s or Ph.D.) from one of Stanford s graduate or professional schools; they may also design their own joint degree program. Stanford Law School also offers advanced law degrees. master s (L.L.M.) and doctorate (J.S.D). Study abroad opportunities are available through Stanford Law s Foreign Legal Study Program . Stanford Law School has eight student journals. Stanford Law Review. Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Stanford Journal of Animal Law and Policy. and Stanford Environmental Law Journal . Along with 57 student organizations. the law school also has various programs and centers for special law interests, including the Stanford Constitutional Law Center, Stanford Criminal Justice Center, Stanford Center on International Conflict and Negotiation, and the Stanford Program in Law, Science Technology. A majority of Stanford Law students take the California State Bar Exam, and in 2007 achieved a 88.7% pass rate. The overall pass rate for the California Bar Exam was 65%. From the 2007 graduating class, 98.3% were employed at graduation and 98.5% were employed nine months after graduation. According to the law school, the mean starting salary was $160,000. Fifty-eight percent of the Class of 2007 accepted employment outside of California.
