In order to earn a Juris Doctor degree, a Cardozo Law student must earn 84 credit hours; in addition to the first-year curriculum below, degree candidates must also complete an upper-level writing requirement, Advanced Legal Research, and a Professional Responsibility course. The required first-year curriculum includes Contracts I and II, Criminal Law, Property, Torts, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law I, Elements of Law, and Lawyering Skills and Legal Writing I and II; part-time students take the same courses, but over three semesters instead of two. Cardozo Law offers an LL.M. degree. as well as the opportunity to earn a joint J.D./LL.M. Cardozo Law offers several study abroad opportunities, including a comparative governance program with Oxford University and a dispute resolution program in Budapest. Exchange programs are also possible. Cardozo Law has six student-run law journals. including the following: Cardozo Law Review. Cardozo Arts Entertainment Law Journal. Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law. and Cardozo Journal of Law Gender . Along with many student organizations. the law school also has programs and centers for specific legal interests such as the Center for Jewish Law, Kukin Program for Conflict Resolution, Jacob Burns Ethics Center, and Center for Public Service Law. A majority of Cardozo Law students take the New York Bar Exam and, in 2007, achieved an 88% pass rate. The overall pass rate for the New York Bar Exam was 77%. From the graduating class, 76.3% of graduates were at graduation, while 91.5% were employed nine months after graduation. Sixty-four percent went to law firms, 17% entered the business or industry, 7% pursued public interest careers, 6% accepted government positions, and 6% accepted judicial clerkships.
