A law dictionary is a dictionary that is designed and compiled to give information about terms used in the field of law .
Distinctions are made among various types of law dictionaries. [ 1 ]
Differentiating factors include:
- Number of languages covered: a monolingual law dictionary covers one language. a bilingual covers two.
- Number of fields covered: a single-field dictionary covers an entire field of law, whereas a sub-field dictionary covers a part of a field of law, e.g. a dictionary of contract law.
- Scope of terms covered: a maximizing dictionary attempts to cover all the terms in the field of law, while a minimizing dictionary attempts to cover only a limited number of terms.
A good bilingual law dictionary needs to take the users' expected language and professional competences into account. The lexicographers therefore must consider the following aspects: dictionary user research, dictionary typology. st

A surviving spouse will automatically inherit any property that she and the decedent owned jointly with a right of survivorship. This will include the marital residence and any other real estate purchased during the marriage, as well as any joint bank accounts. The spouse will inherit a one-half interest in any community property. That is any property acquired during the marriage without a right of survivorship, such as an automobile.
In Tennessee, a spouse may intentionally disinherit his spouse. She will still be entitled to her share of joint or community property, but if she is left out of the decedent's will, she will not be entitled to anything else. However, the omission must be intentional and must be made clear in the will or by other evidence. For example, if a decedent's will contains a statement to the effect of: "I bequeath only $1.00 to my wife for reasons known to both of us," that language clearly establishes an intent to disinherit. However, if there is no s

Nationals of the member states of the European Union benefit from more favourable provisions of immigration law than nationals of other countries. If you are a national of a European member state, do not assume that the general law applies to you; check for special provisions. Four groups must be distinguished:

You can visit, work (subject to restrictions mentioned below for Bulgarians and Romanians), whether for an employer or for yourself, and study. What is Administrative Law? It covers a wide and varied area of practice, encompassing many different types of governmental legal procedures and regulations, and is not easily defined. Much of government and its public programs operate largely through various agencies on different levels: federal, state, county, and city. These agencies are also known as boards, commissions, departments, and divisions.
They generally have their own specific rules and regulations, which are not usually found in the statutes, with stringent procedures individuals must follow to obtain assistance from the agency and to file claims, grievances and appeals. Legal rulings by Administrative Law Judges (ALJ?s) have governing authority the same as most precedent law. Administrative law attorneys can offer assistance when maneuvering through these complicated proceedings.
The Administrative Procedure Act is the governing law for federal administrative agencies. Most states also have the

Is a Career in Law Right For You?
So you want to study law? International students should ask themselves why a career in law entices them. The field of law is quickly growing and there are often a few misconceptions about the field. Many students enter law school because they have the idea that they are good at arguing, and thus must be a good lawyer. While this may be a good quality, it is not the most important.
Students need to be skilled in reading and analyzing documents for language. The legal field is becoming more and more saturated as more students begin to graduate from law school. This means that legal jobs can be scarce and only

International Trade Law Guide
Written by Karin Johnsrud, edited by Silke Sahl
Last Updated July 28, 2011
International trade is a complicated area of law to research because there are numerous levels of trade organizations and interactions. There are bilateral trade agreements, regional trade agreements and multinational trade agreements. Each of these agreements has its own history, policies and dispute settlement procedures. Trade organizations established under the agreements have separate resources that can be searched. Furthermore, individual countries have their own policies and laws relating to international trade. As an example, the United States Congress must pass legislation enacting international trade agreements before the United States can officially become a party. The national policies have to be researched individually and frequently separately from the resources relating to the international organiz

In this Essay, the role of social media in progressive political change is examined in the context of the Arab Spring uprisings. The concept of social media is explained, and Clay Shirky’s arguments for and Malcolm Gladwell’s arguments against the importance of social media in revolutions are analyzed. An account of the Arab Spring (to date) is then given, including the apparent role of social media. Evgeny Morozov’s arguments are then outlined, including his contentions that social media and the Internet can be tools of oppression rather than emancipation, and spreaders of hate and propaganda rather than.

Lenz's law gives the direction of induced current set up due to electromagnetic induction.
It states that an induced current will flow in such a direction so as to oppose the cause that produces it. The cause that produces the current is change of flux linkage of the coil
for Lenz's law Experiment:
Explanation of Lenz's law:
The following is an explanation as to why Lenz's law is true: If the magnetic field associated with this current were in the same direction as the change in magnetic field that created it, these two magnetic fields would combine to give a net magnetic field which would in turn induce a current with twice the magnitude. This process would continue creating infinite current from just moving a magnet; a violation of the law of conservation of energy.

Internet law is closely related to the laws that relate to other similar areas of broadcasting, retail, and information handling, and in many cases, internet laws are identical to those covering the offline world for such things as data protection, defamation, copyright infringement and trademarks .
What do I need to know about data protection?
The Data Protection Act 1998 covers personal data that finds itself on the Internet, and any web site that collects personal information will need to comply with the Act .
Personal information is any information that relates to a living individual who can be identified from that information or from that and other information in the web site owner’s possession, or likely to come into our possession .

The Internet has led to the development of a burgeoning field of legislation wherein amateur lawmakers seek, in the manner of Murphy's Law, to glibly describe certain aspects or observations regarding internet behaviour in general and, more specifically, debates and discussions on Usenet groups and internet forums.
Warning. Internet law tends neither to be logically rigorous nor evenly applied. It often commits fallacies. Invocation of individual laws is usually a time-saving device used to prevent one from being dragged into an argument with someone who will under no circumstance alter one's own opinion.

In law, defamation also called calumny, vilification, slander (for spoken words), and libel (for written or otherwise published words) is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always, a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).
In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism. Related to defamation is public disclosure of private facts, which arises where one person reveals information that is not of public concern, and the rel

#Is an MBA Still Necessary?
Current Issue
This story first appeared in the October 2012 issue of Entrepreneur . To receive the magazine, click here to subscribe.
It used to be that top corporations picked up MBA graduates as fast as schools could slap mortarboards on their heads. These young guns drove corporate reorganization, product innovation and marketing and implemented new styles of leadership. They were a symbol of a new culture, and anyone serious about a career in business aspired to earn those three letters.
Today, the power of the MBA is not so certain. Many in corporate America and academia say the degree that once defined bright, snappy leadership now symbolizes a discipline that has lost touch with the business world. They argue that MBA programs have become too focused on research, and that in-house training at large firms has more practical applications. They claim the programs have failed to create the types of leaders who can de

#Introduction to the English Legal System
The English Legal System
One of the major European legal systems, Roman law being the other, English law has spread to many other countries, including former English colonies such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
English law has an evolving history dating from the local customs of the Anglo-Saxons, traces of which survived until 1925. After the Norman Conquest they grew up, side by side with the Saxon shire courts, the feudal courts of the barons and the ecclesiastical (church) courts. From the king's council developed the royal courts, presided over by professional judges, which gradually absorbed the jurisdictions (legal powers) of the baronial and ecclesiastical courts. By 1250 the royal judges had amalgamated the various local customs into the system of common law – that is, law common to the whole country. A second system known as equity developed in the Court of Chancery, in which the Lord Chancellor c

To ensure public order and safety, lawmakers classify certain acts as criminal offenses. Each state has adopted laws that make certain acts illegal, although the punishment may vary from one state to another. Federal criminal laws and sentences apply no matter where you are in the United States.
Court cases are divided into two broad categories: civil and criminal. Businesses and private citizens file civil lawsuits, usually for the purpose of getting the other side to pay money or stop doing something. If you lose a civil lawsuit, your credit rating may suffer - but you won't go to jail.
If you are accused of a criminal offense, the government files the lawsuit. If you are found guilty, you may be required to pay a fine or go to jail. A criminal conviction can affect your ability to get a driver's license, find a place to live, or get a job.
The county or district attorney files state criminal cases. Crimes that fall under the jurisdiction of the state inclu

The Consul continued,
"In most of these cases, the person responsible for the remains normally decides to bury the body here.
This would only cost $150 dollars".

Professional Degree Advising
Pre-Law
Note: Because no particular course of study is required to go to law school, undergraduate students will choose a major and receive guidance on the specific requirements for their particular major from a departmental advisor.
Law schools in the United States require a bachelor’s degree by the starting date of law study. They neither prescribe a particular course of undergraduate study nor favor applicants who have graduated from a formal pre-law program.
Students interested in attending law school should choose their majors based on their own personal and academic interests and abilities. Although many students who plan to become lawyers study political science, English, history, or philosophy, it is not a disadvantage when applying to law school to have majored in architecture, biology, business, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, or other subjects. #Islamic Law Definition
The law according to the Muslim faith and as interpreted from the Koran.
The law according to the Muslim faith and as interpreted from the Koran ; also known as Sharia law .
Sometimes referred to as Muslim law or even Muhammadan law.
Some Islamic law jurists make a distinction between sharia law and fiqh and conclude that Islamic law includes, inter alia. sharia law first, given its divine origin; and fiqh second, as a body of law which interprets sharia.
Schacht writes:
"The sacred law of Islam is an all-embracing body of religious duties, the totality of Allah's commands that regulate the life of every Muslim in all its aspects."
Islamic law is probably best known for deterrent punishment which is the basis of the Islamic criminal system, and the discrimination against women.
Another important feature of Muslim law is the fact that there is no clear separation of church and state. Under Islam

Employment contract law is the body of law related to agreements made between employers and employees. Written, oral, or implied contracts often give rise to disputes in an employment relationship, and in some cases the end result is wrongful termination. There are several types of employment contracts, including non-compete agreements, waiver of rights agreements, and severance agreements. An at-will employee is a worker who is offered no employee contract who or is offered a contract but can be terminated at any time. Employment workplace issues pertaining to at-will employees or employees under long-term contracts are often beyond the scope of employment contract law.
Employees often hire attorneys to review a contract of employment to avoid legal pitfalls and to ensure that their rights are protected and that the contracts are in their best interests. For example, an employee may have waived his rights to trial in the contract and must go to arbitration where a panel of

#Is Louisiana under Napoleonic law?
The French influence on Pelican state jurisprudence.
Louisiana attorneys who've been displaced by Hurricane Katrina are worrying about whether they'll know enough to pass the bar exam in another state. Meanwhile, law students from New Orleans who transfer out of state won't be able to take the courses they need to practice in Louisiana. What makes Louisiana law unique?
Napoleon. The legal system in Louisiana—unlike that of any other state—derives from the Civil Code established by the French emperor in 1804. Four years before Louisiana became a state in 1812, the former French and Spanish colony adopted a version of the Napoleonic Code. (Some people say it's wrong to call Louisiana's legal system "Napoleonic," since the state Civil Code was also influenced by Spanish law. Historians still argue over the extent of this Spanish influence.) The resulting system of "civil law" in the state differs from the other 49 states' "common-l

#Jane Doe - Lawyers Sue Dershowitz for Defamation - Law Blog
paul cassell
Alan Dershowitz Associated Press
Alan Dershowitz has vowed to slap a defamation suit on the two lawyers who claimed in a court document that Florida financier Jeffrey Epstein arranged sexual liaisons for him with an underage prostitute.
Those lawyers have beaten him to the punch.
Paul Cassell and Bradley Edwards, who represent a woman claiming she had sexual relations with Mr. Dershowitz at Mr. Epstein s direction, have filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Dershowitz in Florida circuit court, according to Mr. Cassell.
States the lawsuit:
Immediately following the filing of what the Defendant, DERSHOWITZ, knew to be an entirely proper and well-founded pleading, DERSHOWITZ initiated a massive public media assault on the reputation and character of BRADLEY J. EDWARDS and PAUL G. CASSELL accusing them of intentionally lying in their filing, of having leveled kn

In the following pages we look first at the basic rules concerning inheritance laws in France, and then as they apply to particular family circumstances.
In order to make it as easy as possible for you to access the guidance some of the information in each of these sections does repeat, so you need only go to to the section on 'Basic Rules', and then to that section most relevant to your circumstances.
In August 2015, new European regulations come into effect allowing EU citizens to choose whether the law applicable to their succession (but not inheritance taxes) should be that of their habitual residence or that of their nationality. We shall update this guide in due course to take account of this significant change.
In the following section we summarise the basic statutory rules that apply in French inheritance law.
Three key points at the outset:
- If you are resident in France these rules will apply to all your worldwide assets, save

Stalking refers to harassing actions by one person which are directed toward another and which result in her feeling unsafe or fearful. In the United States (US), there are both state and federal laws that address this type of behavior. Depending upon the jurisdiction under which the crime is committed, a perpetrator may be liable criminally and civilly.
When compared with many laws, which often stem from legislation that is centuries old, stalking laws are fairly new. In the US, every state and the District of Columbia (DC) has stalking laws, but this was not always the case. Even now, there are many definitions of the crime. One reason it is difficult to consistently define this offense is because it generally consists of a number of actions which may be viewed normal under different circumstances.
The creation of these laws was necessary, however, because it was recognized that more people acted in ways that instill fear in others than was once recognized. The abs

According to HHS, the HIPAA law acts as a safeguard of a patient's medical and health information in many forms. In addition to securing medical records, HIPAA also protects any conversations about a patient's health doctors might have with other health professionals such as nurses, information in the hands of an insurer or their computer system and billing records regarding any treatment received. The law requires that anyone with access to a patient's health information must put in place a system to ensure its protection along all links of the chain of responsibility.
Under HIPAA, a patient has the right to a copy of her medical records, to add corrections to her records, to receive reports on the potential sharing and use of records, and to give permission for the records to be shared.
If a patient suspects a covered entity has violated her privacy or that of another person, complaints can be filed with the OCR. The department requires complaints to be in writing-

Becoming a Family Lawyer

#It - s Hard To Pass The Bar: Unranked Law School Edition
/ Mar 12, 2015 at 6:17 PM
Here s how most people pass the bar: they take a two month bar prep course, then they pass.
Sure, some people don t take a course, but that s a little bit like fighting Gregor Clegane without a helmet. On the multistate bar exam, you pass or you die. The reason all these courses work is because test taking is a skill that can be taught. It s not about substantive knowledge or deep intelligence. It s just about learning how to spot the traps and jump through the hoops designed by the test maker. If you can play Destiny, you can pass the bar.
Unless you can t. Some people aren t good at taking standardized tests. For these people, bar prep is less about learning a few tricks and more like electroshock therapy. It s a brute force process that involves amassing enough information that you actually learn the answers instead of being able to noodle them out through all the clues in

#James Sokolove Doesn - t Fix Problems, But He Knows People Who Can
There is a great profile in the Boston Magazine about attorney James Sokolove, a guy that advertises his legal services on T.V. so often I just assumed he didn t actually exist.
Apparently, he does exist, but his legal services don t, at least not in the traditional sense:
Despite his prodigious success and his omnipresent image as a bulldog attorney, Sokolove hasn t seen the inside of a courtroom in nearly three decades. Truth be told, he s argued only one case before a jury; it was back in the early 1970s, and he lost. It wasn t tenacious lawyering that allowed Sokolove to build a legal empire, but rather his prowess as a businessman and an innovator. He and his staff of 80 don t try cases; instead they connect prospective clients to other lawyers, who pay Sokolove a cut of their fees for ginning up business.
Sweet. The only thing better then an unabashed ambulance chaser is an unabashed

Such principles include the rule of law, judiciary independence, multipartism, government transparency and accountability, respect for fundamental human rights, constitutional supremacy and the doctrine of limited government, judicial review and constitutional separation of powers. Whilst it is true that these principles were provided for under the old Constitution, this book notes that the new Constitution has widened and deepened the scope of these principles. For instance, the new Constitution introduces a constitutional dispensation based upon a wider Declaration of Rights, which unlike

A franchise business is a business in which the owners, or "franchisors", sell the rights to their business logo, name, and model to third party retail outlets, owned by independent, third party operators, called "franchisees". Franchises are an extremely common way of doing business. In fact, it's difficult to drive more than a few blocks in most cities without seeing a franchise business. Examples of well-known franchise business models include McDonalds, Subway, UPS, and H R Block. In the United States, there are franchise business opportunities available across a wide variety of industries.
To invest in a franchise, the franchisee must first pay an initial fee for the rights to the business, training, and the equipment required by that particular franchise. Once the business begins operating, the franchisee will generally pay the franchisor an ongoing royalty payment, either on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. This payment is usually calculated as a percentage of t

#What takes precedence: HIPAA or state law?
By JENNIFER DAW HOLLOWAY
Monitor Staff
January 2003, Vol 34, No. 1
Print version: page 28
With the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rule compliance date--April 14--fast approaching, psychologists must explore how the new federal rules interact with their current state laws.
HIPAA's privacy rule governs how health-care providers handle the use or disclosure of protected health information (PHI). In effect, PHI is defined as individually identifiable health information relating to the condition of a patient, the provision of health care or payment for care. All states already have privacy laws that apply to such information. Areas such as patient consent, access to records and subpoena rights, to name a few, are included under HIPAA as well as state laws.
So, will HIPAA's rules preempt state laws?
"The general standard is that if a state law

The Children s Law Clinic is a community law office that provides free legal advice, advocacy, and legal representation to low-income children. The clinic is staffed by Duke Law students who bring their compassion, commitment, and energy to the task of advocating for at-risk children. Since its establishment in 2002, the Children s Law Clinic has represented hundreds of children from a wide region around Durham.
The Children s Law Clinic is one of the few programs in North Carolina with expertise in special education and school discipline law. All North Carolina children with learning-related disabilities have a right to an appropriate public education, says Clinic Director and Clinical Professor Jane Wettach. That right is violated if those disabilities are not properly addressed or if students are improperly barred from their classrooms and schools. The law students in the clinic advocate for children in the public schools when parents have been unable to obtain appropriat

In the United States and most European nations, aviation law is considered a federal or state-level concern and is regulated thereby at that level. In the U.S. states cannot govern aviation matters in most cases directly but look to Federal laws and case law for this function instead. For example, a court recently struck down New York's Passenger Bill of Rights law because regulation of aviation is traditionally a federal concern. Aviation law, however, is not in the United States held under the same Federal mandate of jurisdiction as admiralty law; that is, which the United States Constitution provides for the administration of admiralty, it does not provide such for aviation law.
Space law. which governs matters in outer space beyond the Earth's atmosphere, is a rather new area of law but one that already has its own journals and academic support. Expectedly, much of space law is connected to aviation law.

In accordance to the Public Act of on New Child Restraints, otherwise known as the Booster Seat Law, Michigan State requires parents to strap their children in car seats or booster seats depending on their age and height. This stratified system of seats has been implemented in order to decrease the likelihood of children incurring injury during an automobile accident. If a driver in the state of Michigan does not follow these guidelines, they could incur a $25 penalty for a civil infraction. Therefore, follow these instructions to avoid the fines and offer a greater amount of protection to your children in the car.
Michigan has a program called LATCH, which stands for The Lower Anchords and Tethers for Children. This program advocates attaching the car seat to two anchors, one above the seat and one below the seat where the cushions meet one another. Many forward-facing car seats have tethers for these essential latches, so the seat should only be secured merely by an old-fa

#Pre law degree
No special college program is required or recommended by most law schools. Generally, law schools urge a solid four-year program leading to a bachelor's degree. As long as a student receives a quality education featuring critical analysis, logical reasoning, and written and oral communications, any WMU major is acceptable for a pre-law student. Most often chosen are English, business, political science, history and economics, but such disciplines as philosophy, anthropology, mathematics, sociology, natural sciences, engineering, education, fine arts and aviation are also suitable majors. An advisor can help you with these decisions or contact one of the above departments.
Regardless of one's major, choose these essential courses:
- Writing, such as English and business communication
- Legal reasoning, such as administrative law, constitutional law and business law
- Awareness of the structure and processes of government, such as

Do you know the steps that must be taken to bring a wrongful discharge claim? Do you know that employees can receive many different types of damages if they have been wrongfully discharged? Here are 10 points to keep in mind when considering a wrongful discharge lawsuit:
Although many employment relationships are "at-will," meaning that either the employer or the employee may terminate the relationship at any time with or without reason, that does not mean that employers can act in a discriminatory manner. #Joint Law and Graduate Degrees
At Iowa, JD students are able to develop joint degree programs with most graduate colleges and departments in the University. The cross-crediting feature of the joint degree program allows students to receive the JD and another graduate/professional degree by taking six to 24 hours (equivalent to one or two semesters) less course work than would be necessary if the two degrees were pursued independently.
Joint Degree Objectives
The College of Law places few restrictions on the University of Iowa graduate department/college in which a student might pursue graduate work while pursuing a law degree. The "relatedness" of the dual degree objective is the main criterion; the joint degree student should bring to one discipline the insights and experience gained in the other. Currently, the most popular joint degrees include:
- JD/MBA (Management)
- JD/MPH (Public Health)
- JD/MHA (Health Management Policy)

Definition
A contract in which one party agrees to indemnify another against a predefined category of risks in exchange for a premium. Depending on the contract, the insurer may promise to financially protect the insured from the loss, damage, or liability stemming from some event. An insurance contract will almost always limit the amount of monetary protection possible.
Overview
In the absence of insurance, three possible individuals bear the burden of an economic loss; the individual suffering the loss; the individual causing the loss via negligence or unlawful conduct; or lastly, a particular party who has been allocated the burden by the legislature, such as employers under Workmen's Compensation statutes.
While types of insurance vary widely, their primary goal is to allocate the risks of a loss from the individual to a great number of people. Each individual pays a "premium" into a pool, from which losses are paid out. Regardless of whether
