#Crime Scene Investigator
So is being a crime scene investigator (CSI) as exciting and intriguing as television makes it out to be? Well that depends. There are a number of different categories and types of crime scene investigators and each plays a different investigative role. Traditionally, CSIs were law enforcement officers, but modern CSIs typically are not law enforcement officials. Crime scene investigators (CSIs) include criminalistics officers, forensic investigators, crime scene analysts, and crime and evidence technicians.
The following are a few of the job responsibilities of modern day CSIs:
- Secure and tape off crime scenes
- College and examine physical evidence
- Produce drawings and diagrams of crime scenes
- Photograph crime scenes
- Document physical evidence found at a crime scene
- Label and store evidence being sent to crime laboratories
- Take picture of corpses during autopsies

Before we can discuss successful strategies for students participating in online education, we need to understand what online learning is, and how to use this new medium. Online learning has various definitions, but an essential component for all is the use of computing and telecommunication technologies to deliver and receive course materials.
Online education utilizes the Internet or videoconferencing to create learning communities. Course materials are provided on a Web site and are occasionally found on CD-ROM; email, bulletin boards, forums, and chat rooms are used to interact with other students and teachers.
Online learning can enhance traditional forms of education. It may take place in the classroom or workplace, it may be performed at home, at online access centers, or at a public library. Online learning provides hands-on experience using information technologies and makes it easier for students to access learning and customized lessons.

Press Release:
The Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA) remains concerned regarding developments in the Waco biker cases.
Last week, a Detective from one of the investigating police agencies on the biker cases was appointed to serve as a grand jury foreman. It is reported that same grand jury may consider the case involving the accused bikers. This is shocking, even though within the technical requirements of the law regarding grand jury service. The fact that a District Judge approved this appointment makes it even more concerning. It is TCDLA s hope that the grand jury seated with the Detective as foreman will not consider this complex case. Imagine a private investigator for one of the defendants attorneys being appointed to the grand jury considering the case? That would not be any more appropriate.
TCDLA s concerns with this case began when a Justice of the Peace with strong law enforcement ties set identical bon

"Shoplifting" generally refers to the theft of merchandise from a store or place of business. Shoplifting is a type of larceny. which simply means taking the property of someone else without their permission, and with the intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property taken.
Though states may punish shoplifting under their general larceny or theft statutes, many states have enacted statutes to specifically address shoplifting. States may refer to the crime by different names, including "retail theft" and "concealment of merchandise."
These state laws vary widely, but generally, shoplifting offenses includes two elements:
1. willfully concealing or taking possession of items being offered for sale; and
2. the intent to deprive the items' rightful owner (typically the store) of possession of the items, without paying the purchase price.
Crucially, this means that in most states, one can break shoplifting laws without attempting to get o

Benjamin Franklin famously said that death and taxes are the only certainties in this world. That's good news for accountants because it means their skill set is often in demand. Still, there's plenty of competition. Since the law is constantly changing and most clients want professionals to help them save on their tax bill, accountants are always looking for ways to stay on top of their game. And one route they might take is an online MBA program in accounting.
"We prepare students for being more than an accountant," says John C. Draut, assistant professor and program director of the master of science in accountancy and master of science in taxation programs for Benedictine University. "That's what graduate school is all about."
Indeed, a good online MBA program in accounting can help students hone their number crunching while developing softer skills, such as leadership, team building, and communication. Accountants might be among the most underestimated employees

#Criminal and Civil Law
Criminal law. one of two broad categories of law, deals with acts of intentional harm to individuals but which, in a larger sense, are offences against us all. It is a crime to break into a home because the act not only violates the privacy and safety of the home's occupants - it shatters the collective sense that we are secure in our own homes. A crime is a deliberate or reckless act that causes harm to another person or another person's property, and it is also a crime to neglect a duty to protect others from harm. Canada's Criminal Code. created in 1892, lists hundreds of criminal offences - from vandalism to murder - and stipulates the range of punishment that can be imposed. Since crimes are an offence against society, normally the state or Crown investigates and prosecutes criminal allegations on the victim's behalf. The police gather evidence and, in court, public prosecutors present the case against the person accused of the

What is Family Law?
Family law consists of a body of statutes and case precedents that govern the legal responsibilities between individuals who share a domestic connection. These cases usually involve parties who are related by blood or marriage, but family law can affect those in more distant or casual relationships as well. Due to the emotionally-charged nature of most family law cases, litigants are strongly advised to retain legal counsel.
The vast majority of family law proceedings come about as a result of the termination of a marriage or romantic relationship. Family law attorneys help their clients file for separation or divorce, alimony, and child custody, visitation, and support. Spouses married a short time may seek an annulment, and special rights may exist between same-sex couples. The division of property at the end of a marriage is also a common issue in family law cases.
With respect to property division at the time of divorce, every s

Guide to Penal Law
What is Criminal Law?
Criminal law involves a system of legal rules designed to keep the public safe and deter wrongful conduct. Those who violate the law face incarceration, fines, and other penalties. The American criminal justice system is both complex, and adversarial in nature. With the exception of minor traffic violations, accused individuals will require the assistance of an attorney.
Specific crimes and the consequences for violating them are found in penal codes enacted by legislators at the local, state, and federal levels. Less serious crimes are classified as misdemeanors. These typically carry a maximum of up to one year in the county jail. Examples include petty theft, possession of small amounts of controlled substances, and first-offense drunk driving.
Crimes of a more serious nature are classified as felonies. These carry punishments of a year or more in state or federal prison. Felonies in

#Criminal Law
What we call criminal law broadly refers to federal and state laws that make certain behavior illegal and punishable by imprisonment and/or fines. Our legal system is largely comprised of two different types of cases: civil and criminal. Civil cases are disputes between people regarding the legal duties and responsibilities they owe each other. Criminal cases, meanwhile, are charges pursued by prosecutors for violations of criminal statutes.
Criminal Law: History
In the United States, British common law ruled during colonial times. Common law is a process that establishes and updates rules that govern some nations. Once America became an independent nation, it adopted the U.S. Constitution as "the supreme law of the land." The U.S. continues to employ a common law system, which works in combination with state and federal statutes. As far as criminal laws are concerned, each state has its own penal code which defines what is or is not a crime, th

#Criminal law
criminal law , the body of law that defines criminal offenses, regulates the apprehension, charging, and trial of suspected persons, and fixes penalties and modes of treatment applicable to convicted offenders.
Criminal law is only one of the devices by which organized societies protect the security of individual interests and ensure the survival of the group. There are, in addition, the standards of conduct instilled by family, school, and religion; the rules of the office and factory; the regulations of civil life enforced by ordinary police powers; and the sanctions available through tort actions. The distinction between criminal law and tort law is difficult to draw with real precision, but in general one may say that a tort is a private injury whereas a crime is conceived as an offense against the public, although the actual victim may be an individual.

Parole Probation
Criminal convictions have long-term consequences. For someone who has been charged with a crime, whether a DUI, assault, or a property crime like embezzlement or petty theft, worries about jail time and possible punishments and penalties may be just the beginning. Criminal charges are serious, and even with a first offense, a person charged with a crime may be facing consequences that can affect their life permanently.
Long Term Consequences of a Conviction
While the most pressing concern associated with criminal charges is often fear of being separated from family or loved ones, the ways a defendant can be permanently affected vary greatly. For example, a criminal defendant may lose their job or even their professional license, both common consequences of a criminal conviction. As extreme as it may sound, some states automatically revoke a plumber s license for certain offens

Environmental law is a body of law—a system of complex and interlocking statutes, common law, treaties, conventions, regulations, and policies—that seeks to moderate or eliminate the actual or projected harm to the natural environment resulting from human activities. Environmental law as a distinct system arose in the 1960s in the major industrial economies as it was becoming clear that the cumulative negative environmental effects of human activities were becoming unsustainable in the long term. This new field of law has often been hampered by a lack both of institutions and of a common public will supporting enforcement of the laws.
Environmental law rests on the recognition of a new relation of humans with the environment, a relation in which humans explicitly value the biosphere, no longer assuming that the environment's natural capital can be either freely consumed or freely used for the dumping of wastes. The emergence of environmental law in the twentieth centu

#Criminal lawyers asked to take 4% pay cut as legal aid reforms bite
Evidence has begun to emerge of the impact of legal aid cuts on criminal law firms, with internal memos from one large business showing that lawyers are being asked to take a 4% pay cut or face losing their jobs.
The effect of Ministry of Justice cutbacks and reorganisation of duty contracts covering police stations and magistrates courts could, according to leaders of the profession, lead to two-thirds of criminal solicitors losing their jobs.
Poorly paid paralegals are increasingly being hired to carry out criminal defence work, critics of the government’s plans warn, prompting fears of an increase in miscarriages of justice.
The warnings come as the consultation on reforming the system of duty lawyer contracts closes on Wednesday. Last month the MoJ lost a judicial review and was forced to re-run the consultation process.
The number of duty legal aid contracts is scheduled to fal

#Criminal Lawyers - Compare Top Criminal Attorneys
Arrested or facing criminal charges?
Criminal law addresses the government's prosecution of individuals who have been accused of committing a crime. Such laws may be federal, state, or local. The prosecution represents the people of a particular jurisdiction, and acts on behalf of the government by bringing a case against an accused. Under the U.S. Constitution, a person accused of a crime may have the right to a criminal defense attorney during interrogations and certain other times before and during a trial.
Whether you are under police investigation, have been arrested, or are facing charges, having an advocate familiar with the criminal justice system.
Most jurisdictions classify crimes as felonies or misdemeanors, with felonies being the more serious offenses with the possibility of more severe sentences. Some criminal lawyers focus on a specific area of criminal defense law, such as white-collar crime,

As the free and open source software ( FOSS ) movement gains momentum in commercial settings, lawyers need to address the legal problems associated with the sometimes vague and contradictory tenets of intellectual property law as it pertains to software, and the often ambiguous or contradictory terms of FOSS licenses. Of greatest concern is the so-called viral nature of the GNU General Public License (GPL), which purports to place restrictions on integration of proprietary software components with software covered by the GPL. Central to this question is the definition of derivative work under the Copyright Act, and the public position of the Free Software Foundation on the definition of this term, which some believe to be broader than that used by the Copyright Act as interpreted by courts.
The following articles explore these and other legal problems associated with open source licensing. The following materials also include an overview of other legal areas relevant to OSS,

#Cuomo, Legislative Leaders Announce Extensions of Rent Laws, 421a
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images).
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan today debuted the framework of a deal that will extend the city s rent regulations and the controversial 421a tax abatement for six months—with some tweaks to the former, and potential for the latter to last through 2019 if the real estate industry and labor reach an agreement on construction wages.
A week after the price caps on some 1 million apartments and the tax exemption for developers expired—only to be re-upped for five days—and six days after the State Legislature was scheduled to adjourn for the year, the governor and legislative leaders announced in Albany they had finally reached a tentative agreement on an array of contentious issues. Despite the delays and prolonged negotiation, Mr. Cuomo hailed the deal as an extraordinary breakthrough i

In the Siirci bar in a backstreet of Istanbul's bustling Beyoglu district, a few patrons are enjoying a cold beer. Flyers for LBGT rights and environmentalist demonstrations are scattered on a small table with feminist magazines stacked alongside.
Places like ours do not fit in the AKP's vision of Istanbul, says the bar's manager, Haydar Tas, of the party that has governed Turkey for the last decade. And restrictions on alcohol consumption will make things harder for us.
In a surprise move last week, the Turkish parliament rushed through strict legislation that, once approved by the president, Abdullah Gul, will curb alcohol sales and drinking in Turkey.
The planned regulations would prohibit retail sales between 10pm and 6am, ban all alcohol advertising and promotion, and stop new shops and bars from opening within 100m of schools and mosques.
As is already the case with smoking, the depiction of alcohol consumption in films and on television would
