The Children s Law Line is an easily accessible legal resource that can assist callers on a variety of issues. Some questions include:

  1. What to do if a parent is not complying with court-ordered child support
  2. Whether visitation can be denied
  3. How to protect a child whose parent is often under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Services like the Children s Law Line are desperately needed by those with severe budgetary constraints who want to help a child, but are at the mercy of a complex and inflexible legal system.

#The 10 Most Underrated Law Schools - Bloomberg Business

There is a strong chance you have never heard of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. The Raleigh, N.C. school is not prestigious enough to be ranked among U.S. News and World Report 's best law schools, and it enrolls only about 400 students at a time. Yet a new law school ranking suggests that most of us are probably underestimating Campbell.

Alfred Brophy, a law professor at the University of North Carolina, published a paper online on Sunday that grades law schools on just three measures of success. Brophy’s simple accounting looks at students’ employment outcomes, their median scores on the Law School Admission Test, and the number of citations that a school’s law review receives. By distilling the rankings down to these metrics, Brophy says he can get at the essence of a law school’s worth: how well it prepares its students for the profession they have chosen.

#The 10 Most Under-Rated Reasons Why You Should Get An MBA

Students studying in Stell Hall at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

Over the last year, I’ve written about the most dangerous aspects of getting an MBA. Now 12 years removed from Business School, those are some lessons I wish I’d known about at the time.

However, it’s not all gloom and doom. There are some amazing aspects of taking 2 years of your life to go back to Business School for your MBA. Most people think and MBA is all about getting a bigger pay check afterwards. While that usually happens, that’s not likely what you’ll remember fondly in 10 or 20 years from now.

Back in September, I co-taught an MBA class on Strategy up at Dartmouth’s Tuck School with Professor Sydney Finkelstein. Afterwards I went out for dinner with some of the students from the class. I began to ask them how they were enjoying their time living in the woods doing their MBA.

Here’s a list ... Read more »

Back in July, we launched the ATL Law Firm Reputation Survey, asking those of you working in Biglaw to rate your peers and competitors. Included in these rankings were market-specific questions, inquiring about both the reputation of firms in each survey participant's city as well as each firm's desirability as a potential employer. In creating the survey, we limited our city-specific firm choices to offices with at least 50 lawyers. Our office rankings include the following markets: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, DC.

Firms are rated on a scale with 100 possible points:

#The Best Law Schools In The World (2015)

It s a good thing lawyers love law school rankings, because there are tons of them. Every year, it seems like there s a whole new crop of law school rankings to fight about with your friends. Aren t you getting tired of them? No, of course not. Lawyers love rankings more than they love money (okay, maybe that s taking it a step too far).

You ve seen the ATL law school rankings (and you cheered for realistic, employment-based metrics; don t worry, the 2015 edition will be released very, very soon). #The Civil Concord: A Peace Initiative Wasted - International Crisis Group

    Africa Report N°31 9 Jul 2001

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The civil war between the Algerian army and Islamist guerrillas, sparked by the refusal of the military to recognise the electoral victory of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) in 1991, is not over. The Civil Concord Law, proposed by President Bouteflika in April 1999, approved by referendum in September the same year, and supported by the leaders of the FIS, has failed to convince the majority of the guerrillas to give up their arms and seek peace. No lasting political solution to this Islamist-military conflict has been found and the crisis threatens to spread to other parts of the community.

The Civil Concord law did create a genuine dynamic for peace in 1999. At first, the leaders of the FIS gave their public support to the President’s initiative, in exchange for certain promises by the military regime, nota ... Read more »

#What is the definition of a second tier law school?

Justin Liu Harvard Law School, Class of 2010

Unfortunately, according to multiple sources, the U.S. News and World Report seems to only list schools as Tier 1, Tier 3, and Tier 4, at least in 2009. AboveTheLaw and the Law Librarian Blog both noted this. According to the Law Librarian Blog, in 2009 there were 104 schools under the Tier 1 heading, 37 schools in Tier 3, and 43 schools in Tier 4.

This implies to me, intuitively, that Tier 1 would be the law schools ranked 1-49 and that Tier 2 would be the law schools ranked 50-99, in order to have equally sized tiers that are roughly in line with the idea that Tiers 3 and 4 had a similar number of law schools as each other.

It may also be the case that there are no Tier 2 or second tier law schools, just a large batch of Tier 1 schools and a sudden and severe decline into Tier 3 after that.

I think there s obviously some gray area, but thankfully secon ... Read more »

#The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the

    Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

    Background

In the 1960s, Americans who knew only the potential of equal protection of the laws expected the president, the Congress, and the courts to fulfill the promise of the 14th Amendment. In response, all three branches of the federal government--as well as the public at large--debated a fundamental constitutional question: Does the Constitution's prohibition of denying equal protection always ban the use of racial, ethnic, or gender criteria in an attempt to bring social justice and social benefits?

In 1964 Congress passed Public Law 88-352 (78 Stat. 241). The provisions of this civil rights act forbade discrimination on the basis of sex as well as race in hiring, promoting, and firing. The word sex was added at the last moment. According to the West Encyclopedia of American Law. ... Read more »

#The Economist explains: The fight over India - s land laws

The fight over India s land laws

    Apr 20th 2015, 5:36 by J.O S. | MUMBAI

INDIA’S parliament reopened today after a short break. The government led by Narendra Modi is trying to pass amendments to a 2013 land-acquisition bill through parliament’s upper house, where it lacks a majority. Under the existing bill, any forced sale of land requires the consent of at least 70% of affected owners and must also pass a social-impact test. Compensation is set at double the market value for urban plots and quadruple for rural land. The demands of the bill are a leading reason why investment projects are at a standstill. In December Mr Modi’s government issued a temporary executive order that did away with the consent clause for certain projects. The amended bill would make that change permanent. But the opposition Congress party claims that removing the consent clause rewards business interests at the expense ... Read more »

    The Eviction Process

Eviction Flow Chart (Shows timeline and steps in the eviction process.)

If your landlord tells you to move, it doesn t mean you have to. In San Francisco, rent controlled tenants (most tenants) can only be evicted for certain just causes . Plus, here, and everywhere in California, evictions must follow specific legal procedures and a court process before you can be forced to move, unless you are a sole lodger living with the owner.

Beware. Most no fault evictions require landlords to pay relocation payments and restrict whether or not a landlord can raise the rent on a new tenant or convert the unit into a condominium. Tenants who move just because the landlord tells them to—without making the landlord actually issue an eviction notice—allow the landlord to evade re-rental and condo conversion restrictions, as well as relocation payments.

    #The Law of Supply

The law of supply states that there is a positive relationship between the quantity that suppliers are willing to sell and the price level.

The law of supply is a fundamental principle of economic theory. It states that an increase in price will result in an increase in the quantity supplied, all else held constant.

    The Law of Supply

Supply has a positive correlation with price. As the market price of a good increases, suppliers of the good will typically seek to increase the quantity supplied to the market.

The rationale for the positive correlation between price and quantity supplied is based on the potential increase in profitability that occurs with an increase in price.

All else held constant, including the costs of production inputs. the supplier will be able to increase his return per unit of a good or service as the price for the item increases. Therefore, the net return to the supplier increases as the spread or ... Read more »

#The Cornell Law School Federalist Society

    Welcome

The Cornell Law School Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservative and libertarian law students interested in the current state of the legal order. The Society is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is and not what it should be.

The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities. This entails reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law. It also requires restoring the recognition of the importance of these norms among lawyers, judges, law students and professors. In working to achieve these goals, the Society is part o ... #The Harvard Law Review Just Gave a Boost to Ted Cruz - s Potential Run for President

An article published in the Harvard Law Review is giving a boost to what appears to be the increasingly likely presidential run of Ted Cruz.

Cruz, the Republican senator from Texas, was born in Canada and recently made a point to renounce any Canadian citizenship. His father, who had Cuban citizenship but was an American resident, was working in the oil field in Calgary when the younger Cruz was born. His mother was an American citizen.

That, however, doesn’t mean he isn’t a “natural-born citizen,” according to a bipartisan article in the Law Review published by a former Bush and a former Obama law official.

#The decision to pursue and publish the Megan s Law story

The decision to pursue and publish the Megan's Law story

Case prepared by David Yarnold, Editor, San Jose Mercury News and Susan Goldberg, Executive Editor, San Jose Mercury News

In 2003, the Mercury News embarked on a project to expose and correct the flaws of Megan's Law in California. Under the federal Megan's Law, most states have made it easy for residents to get accurate, detailed information on high-risk sex offenders. Residents of Florida, New Jersey and 33 other states can find that kind of information online. But in California, it takes a trip to the police department. Even then, the information available is so general it is nearly useless. And, sometimes, it's wrong. Our investigation showed California has one of the nation's least informative, most inaccurate databases of registered sex offenders.

After months of reporting, we concluded that the public had the right to know the sa ... Read more »

#The Difficulty of Getting a College Degree Online

Getting a college degree online is a fairly recent innovation in the world of higher education, and though it is becoming more usual and more easily done as technology becomes better and better able to handle distance education, the fact of self-motivation is still the number one problem when it comes to completing a college degree online.

Virtually all universities are now offering online courses, and some are offering an entire degree to be earned online. This seems to be a step up from the so-called online universities that only exist in cyberworld. Most people are much more comfortable getting a college degree online when it is coming from a university that physically exists and has existed for some number of years. These universities are accredited and have years of experience in designing degree programs and setting up requirements and standards. For such universities, the fact of doing the degree online lies only in ... Read more »

Some firearms regulations come from the federal government, but passing and enforcing gun control laws is primarily the job of the states. Laws that regulate the purchase and use of guns vary quite a bit from state to state, often reflecting regional traditions and attitudes toward guns. Some states require a permit for buying a gun, including a waiting period for a background check, while others have very few restrictions.

Gun Control Laws in Oregon: Overview

Oregon has relatively loose regulations on guns, allowing the open carry of guns and issuing permits for concealed carry. Also, those with open carry licenses are exempt from any local ordinances or restrictions on guns (state law preempts). Background checks are conducted electronically at the point of sale, so there is no waiting period for purchasing a firearm in Oregon.

#The Employment Rate Falls Again for Recent Law School Graduates

    Photograph by Dennis Van Tine/Corbis

Columbia Law School's graduating class in New York

Job prospects for law school graduates aren’t improving much. The overall employment rate for recent law grads fell for the sixth year in a row, to 84.5 percent, according to a report  by the National Association for Law Placement, a professional association. The report, released on Thursday, surveyed the class of 2013 and found that even after slight improvement over the last two years, the employment rate remains well below an all-time high of 91.9 percent, reached in 2007 before the financial crisis hit.

At the same time, law schools enroll students who will amass plenty of student loan debt in their three years of study. They hope for a job right out of school, with a big enough salary to cover loan payments and living expenses. But the field of law was hit especially hard by the 2008 crash and ... Read more »

    #The J. D. vs. LL. B degree.

When law students convene at the University of Calgary this month to slog over case studies and legal precedents, they will be working toward a different degree than their predecessors: a juris doctor (J.D.) rather than the traditional bachelor of laws (LL.B) degree.

On Sept. 1, Calgary joined an ever-lengthening list of Canadian law schools to stamp J.D. on their degrees instead of those other letters. But the thinking behind the switch seems as much about politics as it is about education.

The J.D. designation is common in the United States, where students must complete an undergraduate degree before attending law school. Meanwhile, the LL.B. designation has reigned supreme in Canada and other Commonwealth countries such as Britain. The difference is that in Canada—like in the States—most students have already completed an undergrad degree before entering law school; across the pond, students can attend law school straight out ... THE INVISIBLE HAND OF STEVE MOSTYN

    Steve Mostyn: Pushing a Pro-Lawsuit, Job-Killing Agenda

Steve Mostyn is a Houston personal injury lawyer specializing in hurricane lawsuits. He has become extremely wealthy off the losses of others in the wake of damaging storms. Mostyn is the largest funder of liberal candidates in Texas who oppose lawsuit reform and push his pro-lawsuit, job killing agenda.

Mostyn knows most Texans are conservative and don’t like lawsuit abuse, so he has also created a number of groups with conservative sounding names to fool voters. During election years, he puts up millions for these deceptively named groups which back candidates who want to roll back the lawsuit reforms that are keeping the Texas economy strong. He’s hoping voters won’t realize that the money is coming from a liberal, personal injury trial lawyer whose primary agenda is, presumably, his own self-interest.

#Which law firms will fund your LPC and GDL course fees and pay maintenance costs?

Of the firms advertised in TARGETjobs Law 2015, 46 sponsor their future trainees through the conversion course and LPC.

The promise of a generous salary is a tempting reason to become a trainee solicitor but the flipside is that qualifying is an expensive business. Non-law graduates need to cover conversion course (usually known as the CPE or GDL) fees, which range from £3,000 to £10,200 full time, and all graduates who want to become a trainee solicitor need to fund the legal practice course or LPC, which costs from £7,500 to £14,750 full time, depending on course provider and location. It’s wise to start thinking about how you’re going to finance this while still on your undergraduate degree.

#The Law of Attraction: Real-Life Stories

    1 of 13

Millions of people have now heard of The Secret . a theory which brings phrases like "positive thinking" and "the law of attraction" to everyday conversations. Although the The Secret is a fairly recent phenomenon, spiritual thinkers say they've been studying the concepts for years.

Acclaimed author Louise Hay is considered the mother of positive thinking. She is back to continue the conversation about the law of attraction, which is the basis of The Secret. "The law of attraction is that our thinking creates and brings to us whatever we think about," she says. "It's as though every time we think a thought, every time we speak a word, the universe is listening and responding to us."

Louise says negativity can keep you from obtaining the things you want in life. "We don't want to put ourselves down," she says. "We don't want to say, 'Oh, it will never work for me,' or 'I'm not goo ... Read more »

    #THE LAW OF INERTIA

T he law of inertia states that:

A body will preserve its velocity and direction so long as no force in its motion's direction acts on it.

For example : a package thrown out of an airplane will continue to move at the speed of the airplane on the horizontal axis (in the direction of the airplane's movement). Since the law of gravity acts on the package (a vertical downward axis), the package will gather speed along the vertical axis, but on the horizontal axis its speed will remain equal to that of the airplane.

(In this explanation we have left out the force of air-resistance).

    %img src="incl4.jpeg>

The" /%Galileo discovered the law during the first decade of the seventeenth century, but in fact he did not understand the law in the general way we have formulated it here. The general formulation of the law of inertia was devised by Galileo's pupils and by Descartes - a French philosopher, mathema ... Read more »

#The Law of Attraction - Making It Work

The law of attraction is not a new idea. It has always been here from ancient times, and people have always used it.

Hunters, who painted scenes of hunting on the walls of caves thousands of years ago, used the law of attraction, as well as contemporary businessmen, who visualize what they wish to accomplish. You use it too, whenever you think, make plans or daydream.

The Law of Attraction - Writers and Books

This subject entered the public's mind more than a hundred years ago. At that time, the term, the law of attraction was not used. The authors that wrote about it, called it the law of opulence, mental power, mental magic, the power of thoughts or creative visualization.

It is the same law, the same power, only with a different name.

Many years ago, William Walker Atkinson, Richard Ingalese, Opheil and many others, have written books on the power of the mind, and how to attract to you what ... Read more »

#The Laws Governing Real Estate Contracts

The purchase or sale of real property is governed by both common law (judge-made law), and by state and federal statutes (enacted by state legislatures or Congress). As a result, the requirements for a valid and enforceable real estate contract vary from state to state.

    Real Estate Contracts—The Basics

Customarily, a party wishing to buy or sell a home will enter into a “listing agreement.” This is a contractual relationship with an agent or broker, which establishes a wide range of terms—the commission rate to be paid, the length of time the house will be listed, where the property will be listed, and how the property will be shown. In most instances, the listing agreement is an exclusive one, preventing the buyer or seller from using multiple agents or brokers at the same time. Because of the exclusive nature of the relationship, a broker or agent may be entitled to a commission even when a buyer or seller completes a tr ... Read more »

#What’s Wrong with the Violence Against Women Act?

When Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 1994, it was a landmark in federally recognizing the scourge of domestic violence. It also brought about a very practical change, meant to address the problem of cops treating such cases as private family matters instead of serious crimes. With grant funding as reward and with the backing of many leaders in the battered women’s movement, VAWA encouraged states to adopt mandatory arrest policies that allowed domestic violence cases to move forward without the cooperation of victims. Eighteen years later, with a reauthorization of VAWA now stalled on Capitol Hill, a vocal group of researchers and advocates are questioning whether VAWA’s original intent—to make law enforcement the primary tool to stop domestic violence—was the right approach. “VAWA’s focus on law enforcement reduces the really more complicated thing of violence against women to be a problem of the law,” say ... It is against the law (1) (2):

    #The law of tort

    What is meant by Tort?

The law of tort is defined as a body of rights, obligations and remedies that is applied by courts in civil proceedings to provide relief for individuals or victims (claimant or plaintiff) who have suffered harm from the wrongful acts of others (defendant).

Tort should immediately be distinguished from two other kinds of law, notably criminal law and contract law.

    Criminal Law

Criminal Law is concerned with crimes committed against the state which are punishable by either a fine or imprisonment. Tort is between individuals with the primary remedy being that of damages paid from one individual to another for the damage that they have suffered.

Criminal Law is presided over in the criminal courts whereas tort law is presided over in the civil courts.

Every year, students and parents across America obsess over education rankings. Families spend thousands on standardized test prep, then celebrate or despair based on the ranks of the institutions offering admission. Many high school seniors choose to relocate 2,000 miles away (and in climates 40 degrees colder) just because the local college fell 10 spots lower in US News’ latest list. For some, the mania continues after college, as future business. medical, and law students pore over graduate school rankings, matching their college GPAs to the averages reported by the nation’s so-called “top” schools.

So is all the hysteria warranted? Does a higher rank really guarantee better job prospects, higher salaries, and ultimately, a better life? The data says no…for the most part. While rankings are certainly helpful in a broad, directional sense, ... Read more »

#Who Can Inherit from an Estate?

Determining who inherits the assets of a decedent s estate is usually simple if the estate has a valid will, because the will sets out who the assets go to. However, wills can be fuzzy if they're not well drafted, and sometimes beneficiaries can be hard to track down. If the estate is intestate. meaning it does not have a valid will, the laws of intestacy determine who inherits what. Even if an estate does not have a will, the surviving spouse and the children of the decedent generally have rights to inherit.

Inheritance rights of the surviving spouse

If the decedent was married at the time of his or her death, his or her surviving spouse has a role in the disposition of the estate whether there is a valid will or not. When there is a valid will, the surviving spouse has a choice:

    • He or she can choose to take any inheritance stated under the will.
    • He or she can elect to take against th ... Read more »

#The most common types of barking dog laws & animal control ordinances

This page is part of Section Three:

A Nutshell Description of the Most Common Types of Barking Laws

The two most common types of "anti-barking" laws are the multiple-household laws and the consecutive-disruption ordinances.

    The Multiple Household Laws.

The multiple-household law is the catch-22 of animal control ordinances. According to that set of laws, the barking of your neighbor's dog is only deemed to be illegal after the case goes to court and a judge rules that it is so. The catch is that the court will not agree to hear your case unless you are first able to persuade some of the people from the neighboring households to join you in pursuing a legal case that is sure to be as contentious and upsetting as it is long and drawn-out.

But precious few people want to get involved in a big legal battle. So try as you may, the neighbors will almost neve ... Read more »

#The Lowdown on the Online M. B. A. US News

Learn the pros and cons of getting an online M.B.A. from a reputable program.

Those interested in pursuing an M.B.A. have a lot of options: full-time or part-time programs, abbreviated courses designed specifically for executives, and joint degrees with other academic disciplines, to name a few. In the past decade, another option has emerged and continues to gain popularity: online M.B.A. degrees .

While the quality of online M.B.A. degrees left much to be desired during their early days, their attributes have steadily improved over the past few years, as have their pedigrees. Other highly ranked programs allowing students to complete degrees online include Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and Spain's IE Business School. #The Moral Crisis on Our Southern Border

The Moral Crisis on Our Southern Border

No one knows just how many tens of thousands of Central American nationals most of them desperate, unescorted children and teens are streaming across America s southern border. Yet this phenomenon offers us a proverbial teachable moment about the paradoxes and hypocrisies of Latin American immigration to the U.S.

For all the pop romance in Latin America associated with Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba, few Latinos prefer to immigrate to such communist utopias or to socialist spin-offs like Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, or Peru.

Instead, hundreds of thousands of poor people continue to risk danger to enter democratic, free-market America, which they have often been taught back home is the source of their misery. They either believe that America s supposedly inadequate social safety net is far better than the one back home, or that its purportedly cruel free market gives them more ... Read more »

For the past five years, Lawyerist has published an annual list of the best law firm websites. Now, you can find out what they have in common.

The 2015 best law firm websites are out! Check out the current top 10.

Out of over 50 nominations, we have narrowed the field down to the ten best. There were many good nominations, but the top ten are some really excellent, responsive websites.

Responsive web design turned out to play a big factor in getting to the top ten. A responsive website should look good on any screen, from a big desktop display to a smartwatch. Law firm websites still have a way to go on this, though. Many great-looking nominations — including some websites built in the last year — wound up in the discard pile because they are not responsive.

Apart from responsiveness, however, I will not explain the criteria I used to pick these ten websites. Great website design is in the eye of the beholder, and it is up to you to take a look and de ... Read more »

#Which Legal Form Is Best for Your Business, Incorporation Article

When you start a business, you must decide on a legal structure for it. Usually you'll choose either a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability company (LLC), or a corporation. (Also, some businesses choose to operate as cooperatives.) There's no right or wrong choice that fits everyone. Your job is to understand how each legal structure works and then pick the one that best meets your needs. The best choice isn't always obvious. You may, after reading this section, decide to seek some guidance from a lawyer or an accountant.

For many small businesses, the best initial choice is either a sole proprietorship or, if more than one owner is involved, a partnership. Either of these structures makes good sense in a business where personal liability isn't a big worry -- for example, a small service business in which you are unlikely to be sued and for which you won't be borrowing much money. #Widener Law to announce separate law schools

The American Bar Association has granted permission for Widener Law to become two separate law schools effective July 1. The university will announce the new name for Widener Law Harrisburg and introduce the new dean on Friday.

Since its inception, Widener Law Harrisburg has functioned as a campus of the Widener University School of Law, which was founded in Wilmington, Del. in 1971 and became affiliated with Widener in 1975.

The conversation, first broached amid the 2006 strategic plans, centered around the idea that the two independently accredited law schools would bolster the signature programs at the Harrisburg-area and Wilmington, Del. campuses.

The Harrisburg-area campus - technically located in Susquehanna Township - with its close location to state government, offers a signature law and government institute unique to Pennsylvania.

The Wilmington campus, located amid the corporate headquarters cap ... Read more »

    #Whistleblowing legal definition of Whistleblowing

    Whistleblowing

The disclosure by a person, usually an employee in a government agency or private enterprise, to the public or to those in authority, of mismanagement, corruption, illegality, or some other wrongdoing.

Since the 1960s, the public value of whistle-blowing has been increasingly recognized. For example, federal and state statutes and regulations have been enacted to protect whistleblowers from various forms of retaliation. Even without a statute, numerous decisions encourage and protect whistleblowing on grounds of public policy. In addition, the federal False Claims Act (31 U.S.C.A. 3729) will reward a whistleblower who brings a lawsuit against a company that makes a false claim or commits Fraud against the government.

Persons who act as whistleblowers are often the subject of retaliation by their employers. Typically the employer will discharge the whistleblower, who is o ... Read more »

#Online Law Schools Have Yet to Pass the Bar - US News

Many argue that fully online programs aren't the path to a traditional legal career.

    Updated: 6/20/12

Enrolling in an online J.D. program may seem like a convenient alternative to spending three years and more than $100,000 on a traditional legal education. especially for working adults—but prospective students should be wary of the potential pitfalls, experts say.

Wholly online J.D. programs are not accredited by the American Bar Association, and graduates of the programs are eligible only to take the California Bar Exam, given that it's the only state in which online law schools can officially register (though some states have been known to make exceptions on an individual basis). In all, there are 12 unaccredited distance or correspondence law schools registered in California, including Concord Law School of Kaplan University, California School of Law, and the Abraham Lincoln Univer ... #Why Getting an M. B. A. Isn - t Worth It

Why spend six figures on a business degree? Students would do better to train and network on their own

Whom would you hire: the candidate who built a profitable business in two years, or the candidate who sat in lectures? Brian Stauffer

But don't kid yourself. What matters exponentially more than that M.B.A. is the set of skills and accomplishments that got you into business school in the first place. What if those same students, instead of spending two years and $174,400 at Harvard Business School, took the same amount of money and invested it in themselves? How would they compare after two years?

If you want a business education, the odds aren't with you, unfortunately, in business school. Professors are rewarded for publishing journal articles, not for being good teachers. The other students are trying to get ahead of you. The development office is already assessing you for future donations. Adm ... Read more »
