In almost every study conducted, where law abiding citizens are allowed to be armed and there are lots of them, crime rates go down. Why does government not understand this? The truth is in most instances they do, at least the hardcore anti-gun crowd. They know exactly what they are doing.
However, I do believe there is a portion of the anti-gun crowd that are simply afraid of guns for whatever reason. I assume they are much like some people I know, in that they have never fired a gun, handled one, or actually been around people who responsibly carry a weapon. To them, I say, "Get over your fear, by gaining knowledge: first hand knowledge."
But getting back to the issue of government, in cities where there are strict gun control laws, crime increases. It's quite simple actually. The people with guns are either government or criminals. In some case, they end up being the same, as we have seen in recent months in regards to Chicago.
The law abiding citizen want

Every state has a Lemon Law setting out remedies for consumers who purchase new cars for personal use then discover those cars have unacceptable defects. In general, these laws define a lemon as a new car which requires a certain number of substantial repairs within a certain period--either time or miles after purchase.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is called the Federal Lemon Law as applied to motor vehicles. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act provides the purchaser protections for all consumer goods that come with a written warranty. The Federal Lemon Law allows a consumer to collect attorneys' fees and costs of suit; however, the cost of filing and the jurisdictional threshold for damages make it more practical for most consumers to file initially under their state's Lemon Laws.
Often there is not one single state statute called a Lemon Law, but there are a series of consumer protection statues that cover consumer purchases including cars. Each state's Attorney Gener

#If You Want To Be Rich, Don t Get An MBA
Flickr via tulanesally
In her book, "The MBA Bubble ," Mariana Zanetti, an MBA graduate of IE Business School in Spain, argues that getting an MBA is a waste of time and money. The following has been excerpted from the book with her permission.
The first thing I am going to say about wealth is that many authors who write about prosperity and wealth make it clear: A job will not make you rich.
If you want to be wealthy, at some moment of your life, you will have to create a source of income other than your salary. This is an evident and crushing reality: If you sell your time to others, you will quickly reach a limit in your capacity to generate income.
In his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad ," Ro bert Kiyosaki said that the rich do not work for money; they generate assets that work for them. If you want to learn how to work for money, go to school. If you want to learn how to w

Among the various specialties within the law profession exists the field of corporate law. Unlike criminal or trial law, corporate law is largely focused with practice outside the courtroom. In general, it deals with how laws relate to businesses, corporations, shareholders, and other entities involved in the practice of commerce.
One of the most important conceits of moderate corporate law is the idea that corporations are treated independently, in the legal system, from their constituent parts. Corporations, as they are legally defined, can be sued without that suit extending to their shareholders and partners. In the same way, shareholders are limited in any liability they may be subject to as a result of the performance of the corporation. For example, if a corporation goes bankrupt, that does not mean its shareholders must necessarily be part of it.
Corporate law, as it is recognized today, has existed for more than 500 years, and grew out of the partnerships th

One elderly woman s only political act was to stitch together uniforms for armed rebels in Ethiopia, then ruled by a murderous tyrant named Haile Mariam Mengistu.
Another man, now in his 60s, once donated the equivalent of $50 to the militant opposition in his country.
Yet another man used to act as an informal contact for foreign journalists who were seeking interviews with anti-government guerrillas in El Salvador.
None of these three people ever engaged in political violence themselves, and yet all of them along with dozens and perhaps hundreds of others face the threat of deportation on the grounds that they pose a security risk to the people of Canada, under a catch-all provision of this country s immigration law that man

As of , 49 states have passed legislation to protect bullying victims. The laws typically require schools to educate students about the effects of bullying and to set procedures in place for shielding students from bullying behavior. Some policies require disciplinary procedures to deal with bullies. At least one state requires that schools post a list of bullying incidents on their websites. Once the United States won the second World War, it sought to standardize business practices worldwide, especially in war-torn Europe. Legal standards were put in place by the American-dominated trading system that sought to create a global regime of free trade using the U.S. dollar as the base currency. Only a major international power such as the postwar U.S. could have made this trade regime work.
International business law has several sources for basic legislation. Primarily, major financial institutions that back groups such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are major legislators of basic business practices. In addition, regional organizations such as the European Union, the Arab League, and the Association of East Asian Nations are also sources of international law and practice in business. Powerful states such as the U.S. oil producing states and China also have a important role to play in shaping international business legislation. Ultimately, law

Some people thrive on change but most of us, especially the fixed astrological signs, Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio and Taurus, the last being my sun sign, are not too sure about modifications to what was working just fine, thank you very much. All humans, though, are born, we live and we die. Our children grow up and move on with their lives. We can lose our jobs in America with only an hour s notice. Friends come and go and sometimes we separate from family members. There are painful losses due to disease, weather catastrophes and war. We can’t do much about the fact that life changes, but we don t have to like it, right?
Life can be scary and depressing, unless we learn how to live with universal laws like, When one door closes, another opens. That precept never fails, but we must believe, know. it is true for it to ‘kick in.’ We’ve all heard, Everything happens for a reason,” but when we’re mourning, we don’t care. We ve all heard stories about children in other countries are turned into soldiers or made to work in sweat shops making garments for sale in the U.S. and other developed countries. These children work long hours with little or no pay and spend their nights hungry and cold only to return to work the next day.
Many people think they will help these children by refusing to buy clothing made by companies that employ young children. Our compassion leads us to believe that without buying such products, we can free these children of a life time of what can only be considered slavery. We cry out for Governments in such countries to pass child labor laws that will keep these children from being worked to death.
Have you ever stopped to think what this compassion may mean to these children? What the passing of child labor laws might do to them and their families? In some cases, the entire family is dependent on what these children make to survive. In others, the little additi

Community Property
The holdings and resources owned in common by a Husband and Wife .
Community Property Law concerns the distribution of property acquired by a couple during marriage in the event of the end of the marriage, whether by Divorce or death of one of the parties. In community property states all property accumulated by a husband and wife during their marriage becomes joint property even if it was originally acquired in the name of only one partner. The states that utilize a community property method of dividing resources were influenced by the Civil Law system of France, Spain, and Mexico.
Laws vary among the states that recognize community property; however, the basic idea is that a husband and wife each acquire a one-half interest in what is labeled community property. A determining factor in the classification of a particular asse

However, HIPAA laws are important, and they are in place to protect you from identity theft, being denied care, and/or health insurance coverage.
HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, enacted in 1996.
HIPAA laws created a new national standard in protecting your health information. As you see different physicians or become admitted to different hospitals, your health information should follow you. HIPAA delineates the need to properly protect your health information as it flows through to these different channels. As more and more transactions are completed electronically these day

#Income tax
income tax law: an overview
In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified. It empowered Congress to tax "incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." The Internal Revenue Code is today embodied as Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C. ) and is a lineal descendant of the income tax act passed in 1913, following ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment. While some states do not have an income tax (Nevada), all residents and all citizens of the United States are subject to the federal income tax. Not everyone, however, must file a return. The requirements for filing are found in 26 U.S.C. § 6011. As the largest contributor, its purpose is to generate revenue for the federal budget. In 1985 for example, the government collected over $450 billion in income tax from a total of $742 billion in total internal revenue receipts. The funds collected

#Immigration law revamp will hit more than just NHS - The Scotsman
This week s furore surrounding the impact of changes to immigration laws, particularly the potential effect on the NHS, wasn t surprising, writes Elaine McIlroy
More surprising perhaps was that the uproar hadn’t happened sooner. These changes were announced in 2011 – and they affect all businesses and organisations, albeit with some “shortage occupations” exempted.
The changes will come into effect on 6 April 2016, after which many migrant workers who had planned to stay in the UK will have to leave. The changes will primarily hit employers who rely heavily on migrant and lower paid workers – which is why the impact on the public sector is potentially so high, but all businesses need to be aware.
A new minimum salary requirement will apply to those who wish to settle in the UK. Employees will need to earn £35,000 (or a higher “going rate” for the job) if they want to settle after having worke

Three Jewish men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, chose to follow their consciences, standing up against the king and his edict. Thus began a standoff that remains famous even to this day (see Daniel 3 ).
Unfortunately, we are seeing the same situation repeating itself today.
The Pope is calling for the world to acknowledge and honor Sunday as a day of rest. Legislation that will force the world to worship and rest on Sunday would be the ideal solution. There are many voices clamoring to fulfill exactly such a goal, using the economy, the environment, and even the family as reasons to legislate Sunday rest.
Another standoff is on the horizon. Those who refuse to give up the Biblical seventh-day Sabbath will face trials as tough as the furnace faced by Shadrach and his companions. However, we can hold fast hope, knowing that the God who spared the Israelite men from the fiery furnace is coming again soon.

Definition of Admiralty Law
Admiralty law, also called maritime law, is a combination of U.S. and international law that covers all contracts, torts, injuries or offenses that take place on navigable waters. These laws largely cover interactions between two or more ships, the ship captain's obligations to the crew and passengers, and the rights of crew members, as well as other legal issues.
Federal district courts usually hear all admiralty cases, but states may also hear. Courts apply special rules and legal principles to admiralty cases.
Terms to Know

#In N. H, Christie pivots away from gun laws he once backed
MILFORD, N.H. — Gov. Chris Christie made another pivot away from the gun control policies he had advocated as New Jersey governor Friday.
On the heels of the shooting of four U.S. servicemen at a Chatanooga military recruitment center and nine churchgoers in Charleston, S.C. Christie was asked by a questioner at Chapanga's Griddle Grill for his position on assault weapons.
"We need an attorney general who's going to understand that we don't need to pass new laws," said Christie, a 2016 Republican candidate for president. "We have plenty of laws on the books to stop this."
Christie, who as governor had supported New Jersey bills that include an assault weapons sales ban in 2013. said he is now against any new federal gun legislation, which would include restoring an assault weapons ban that originally passed in 1994 and has since expired.
In April 2013, Christie proposed banning the sale of .

There are many types of law degrees that you can study for in Australia. Some exist because of the need for professional as well as non-practising qualifications. Law schools also offer Juris Doctor degrees as an alternative to Bachelor of Laws.
An academic qualifying degree fulfills the academic side of qualifying for admission into legal practice. If you want to practise law, you need to also complete Practical Legal Training. However, many graduates with a law degree actually choose not to do the extra training required to enter the law profession.
A straight Bachelor of Laws is typically a 4-year degree. It is open to school leavers with a high enough ATAR (or equivalent) score. University graduates or people with some university experience can also enrol in a LLB. Generally, this reduces the length of the course from 4 years down to 3 years.
A combined law degree (also called a double or dual degree) means you graduate with 2 degrees. You do this by taki

#Indiana lawmakers try to quiet firestorm surrounding new law
Indiana lawmakers try to quiet firestorm surrounding new law Associated Press Monday, March 30, 2015
TOM DAVIES
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence called off public appearances Monday and sports officials planned an Indy Welcomes All campaign ahead of this weekend's NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis as lawmakers scrambled to quiet the firestorm over a new law that has much of the country portraying Indiana as a state of intolerance.
Republican legislative leaders said they are working on adding language to the religious-objections law to make it clear that the measure does not allow discrimination against gays and lesbians. As signed by Pence last week, the measure prohibits state laws that substantially burden a person's ability to follow his or her religious beliefs. The definition of person includes religious institutions, businesses and associations.

#Inheritance Law and Your Rights
Inheritance law governs the rights of a decedent's survivors to inherit property. Depending on the type of inheritance law your state has, a surviving spouse may be able to claim an inheritance despite what you may have written into your will. This statutory right of a surviving spouse hinges on whether a state follows the community property or common law approach to spousal inheritance. Children, and sometimes grandchildren, also have a right to claim an inheritance when a parent or grandparent dies.
Inheritance Rights of a Surviving Spouse
Whether a state follows community property laws or common law determines how inheritance law affects the distribution of a married decedent's estate. The following are community property states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Alaska (although in Alaska, there must be a written agreement between the spouses). The remaining states follow c

God wanted only whites to eat at Bessinger s six Piggie Park barbecue joints; so His servant Maurice took that fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which in 1968 decided that his religious freedom argument was patently frivolous.

The theory and use of curfews has been around for many years. Parents want their children home at a safe and reasonable time. While your child may not like it, curfew laws were enacted in many stat4es to protect your child. Many older teens may feel that they are old enough to be responsible for themselves, however, they are still minors and parents and the government are looking out for them.
Some parents, however, do not feel that curfew laws are good for children. They may feel that the government is taking too many liberties or that their children may resent them for not trusting them. Whichever side you stand on, it is good to recognize all the pros and cons so that you can make a rational decision for you and your child.
Those who believe in curfews understand that there are two main goals to a curfew: to protect a child from being victimized at night and to keep children from getting into trouble. Curfews allow for parents to know where their children are and

#Insurance Contract Law - European Commission
European insurers generate premium income of over 1 100bn per year, employ nearly one million people and have invested almost 8 400bn in the European economy. Even a minimum contribution to growth in this sector could have a significant positive impact on the economy as a whole.
Increased cross-border trade offers promising opportunities for growth in the insurance sector. However, efforts to expand intra-EU trade in insurance products are hampered by differences in national contract law.
Buying and selling insurance in the EU is governed by national contract laws. Insurance coverage is a service that is exclusively defined by legal terms and provisions. In contrast to the sale of goods like washing-machines or clothes, insurance coverage depends on a particular legal framework and can be applied differently in different national legal environments.
As a result, if an insurer wishes to offer his products in other

In the early 1970s, there was a robust debate in legal circles about whether to do away with the third year of law school. Two prestigious commissions came to the same conclusion: The third year was largely a waste of time. The traditionalists beat that movement back, but the federal judge Richard Posner has in recent years also called the third year superfluous. And, indeed, at least one survey found that law students are so disengaged by their final year that they skip about half their classes.
All of which makes it surprising that Northwestern University's recent decision to offer a two-year degree track has generated so much controversy. Northwestern students who elect to go the two-year route will take as many credits as their three-year counterparts, but in compressed form. Their first year will begin at the start of the summer, not the fall, and they'll take more credits during the traditional academic year.

Like any other graduate degree, a Master of Laws (LLM) requires a prior degree in this case a Juris Doctor (JD). There are several important differences between the two degrees, the most basic being that a JD is a professional degree that enables individuals to practice law, while an LLM is an advanced graduate degree, which denotes expertise in a specific area of law, or knowledge of American law for foreign law school graduates. An LLM on its own does not enable someone to practice law.
Applicants to LLM degree programs are usually required to submit their law school transcripts, a personal statement, letters of references (varies for different LLM programs), and sometimes a passing score on an English proficiency examination such as IELTS or TOEFL. The infamous LSAT a standardized test used by law schools as a index for admissions to JD programs is not used for LLM admissions.
Once admitted, students working towards LLM degrees should expect to go through 22 to 28

#Police Lives Matter: Louisiana Boy Thanks Local Law Enforcement
A 9-year-old Louisiana boy found a special way to show his respect for law enforcement.
Jayden Witsell has made it his mission to hand out letters to officers one-by-one, along with a St. Michael coin for protection.
Jayden and an officer whose life he touched, Joe McMahan, appeared on "Fox and Friends Weekend" today.
"People don't really care about police officers, and I want to have more respect for them," Jayden explained. "When I heard about those two Hattiesburg officers getting shot, that's when I started."
McMahan, who works for the Slidell Police Department, revealed that he was driving one day when Jayden's mother actually pulled him over.
"I see her flashing her brights, and I'm thinking it's a citizen wanting directions or something," McMahan said. "So I pulled over. And at that time, that's when Jayden got out of the car and asked if he could give me something."

Areas of Study
Curriculum
Intellectual property and information law
Intellectual property courses explore how (and how well) the law balances IP rights with openness to, in the words of the US Constitution, “promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts.”
The intellectual property curriculum begins with introductory courses in each of three major areas—patents, copyrights, and trademarks—or with a survey course on intellectual property law that provides an overview of the key aspects of all three areas. Students then can select from a rich menu of advanced courses and seminars. For example, students can study patent litigation issues with one of the country’s premier patent litigators or learn about international patent law from Professor Rochelle Dreyfuss, one of the drafters of the American Law Institute’s Project on Intellectual Property: Principles Governing Jurisdiction, Choice of Law, and Judg

#International criminal law
The principle that individuals are and can be held criminally accountable for violations of the laws of war dates back to many years. However, it was only after World War II and the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials, set up to judge those German and Japanese military leaders accused of serious crimes during the war, that the idea of individual criminal responsibility for serious breaches of international law gained ground.
The current system of international criminal law works through international ad hoc tribunals, internationalised or mixed tribunals, the International Criminal Court as well as national courts (military tribunals and ordinary courts). One of the legal consequences of framing an act as an international crime is that it may give rise to what is called universal jurisdiction, which allows any state to try alleged perpetrators, even in the absence of any link between the accused and the state exercising jurisdiction.

Statute Law is law that is written down and codified into law. Statutes begin as bills: and there are public and private bills.
Public Acts are those that affect either the whole of the UK or some of its constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, whereas private Acts may grant limited powers to public bodies such as local authorities, or apply only to specific locations within the UK. There has been a significant increase in the number of statutes passed in law in the United Kingdom in the 20th and 21st centuries.
How a Bill Becomes Law
To begin with, a bill goes through scrutiny and is refined before the final draft is created. Then it is given its first reading, and after its second reading there is a general debate as to its contents.
Once at the ‘Committee stage’ both the House of Commons and the House of Lords may make amendments to it. Then further amendments may be made when it is considered at the report stage. A t

#Police Search for Missing NYU Law School Grad Last Seen in Harlem - Central Harlem - New York
Landon Thomas View Full Caption
HARLEM Police are searching for an NYU law school graduate who has been missing for a week, joining friends and relatives who have been scouring the streets and posting fliers, they said.
Landon Thomas, 25, was last seen leaving his apartment on 215 West 145th St. about 5:30 p.m. April 27, friends said.
He and his roommate were preparing to move out of their Harlem apartment that evening, but Thomas left the apartment without his drivers license and never came home, according to his roommate Roman Zanishka, 25.
The plan was, I get back from work and as soon as I get back we start moving, said Zanishka, who said Thomas is very punctual and often gives people a call if he knows he is going to be more than 15 minutes late.
I sent him a text. I thought it was strange but maybe he had just stepped out.

I love Iris West and I hate that people hate her but it was getting hard for me to defend her when I wasn t even 100% in love with the way she was written. Her character has so much potential when she was writing about the Flash, or digging into her boss s disappearance, or punching villains in the face etc, but every time her story started to get interesting, the writers would make her the star of dumb filler episodes. I hope the writers can do her better now that the Everyone is lying to me story line seems to be over. I understand why she s mad and I agree to a certain point, but you wouldn t date/marry a CIA agent and get angry at them for not telling you all of the government s intel, because they re keeping secrets from you and not being honest. Real families of law enforcement officers understand that/why they can t tell you everything about work. I thought that went without saying.

Whistleblower law is related to Wrongful Termination law and includes the statutes that protect employees from being terminated or otherwise discriminated against in retaliation for exposing suspected dishonest or illegal activities or wrongdoings, that violate the public trust, occurring in their place of employment. Although the term ?whistleblower? is generally associated with government workers who report government fraud, these laws actually offer protection to employees of public or private companies, as well as government agencies. Some of these statutes also make provisions for monetary awards for employees who expose an employer who is guilty of these types of violations.
The federal Whistle Blower Protection Act (WPA) protects most federal employees who work in the executive branch. It also requires that federal agencies take appropriate action. The Office of Special Counsel (OSC) was created by this act and is tasked with investigating complaints by the fed

Home Surrogacy Laws in US
Issuance of a U.S. citizenship at birth to a baby born abroad is ruled by Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) Sections 301 and/or 309. The determination of citizenship to children born overseas to a U.S. parent falls within jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, which requires a U.S. citizen to have a biological connection to a child in order to transmit U.S. citizenship to such child. Merely being named as a parent on a Ukraine birth certificate for a baby born as a result of surrogacy arrangement in country doesn’t mean that the birth certificate can meet the U.S. immigration and citizenship necessities.
The State Department determines the citizenship of every kid born as a result of surrogacy program one by one, on a case by case basis, when fastidiously considering the precise facts encompassing the child’s birth and his or her parents’ scenario. The most effective proof accessible to parents to point out their blood relationshi

With law school applicants in shorter supply. it s a tense time for law schools. And in the heart of the nation s capital, the competitive pressures have spilled into the open.
A top dean at American University Washington College of Law is venting frustration over the recent exodus of AU students to George Washington University Law School, accusing his nearby rival of engaging in poaching.
Speaking only for myself and not in my official law school capacity, I view this practice as downright predatory, Anthony E. Varona. AU s associate dean for academic affairs, wrote in a recent Facebook post, which was republished at TaxProf Blog on Thursday.
GW law officials deny they re raiding AU s student body, but what s not in dispute is that an unusually large number of AU students are deciding that they d rather go to GW. In the -14 academic year, 54 students left AU to enroll at GW, according to its most recent disclosure data. Those students represented well more

#Introduction to the Workers Compensation Law
(On-the-Job Injury or Illness)
Introduction to the Workers' Compensation Law
Workers' compensation is insurance that provides cash benefits and/or medical care for workers who are injured or become ill as a direct result of their job.
Employers pay for this insurance, and shall not require the employee to contribute to the cost of compensation. Weekly cash benefits and medical care are paid by the employer's insurance carrier, as directed by the Workers' Compensation Board. The Workers' Compensation Board is a state agency that processes the claims. If Board intervention is necessary, it will determine whether that insurer will reimburse for cash benefits and/or medical care, and the amounts payable.
In a workers' compensation case, no one party is determined to be at fault. The amount that a claimant receives is not decreased by his/her carelessness, nor increased by an employer's fault. However, a wo

#International Humanitarian Law
OVERVIEW
International humanitarian law (IHL), also known as the laws of war and the law of armed conflict, is the legal framework applicable to situations of armed conflict and occupation. As a set of rules and principles it aims, for humanitarian reasons, to limit the effects of armed conflict.
Fundamental to IHL are the following two principles:
- The protection of persons who are not, or are no longer, participating in hostilities; and
- The right of parties to an armed conflict to choose methods and means of warfare is not unlimited
IHL is a part of public international law. Public international law is a broad set of treaties, customary law, principles and norms. The framework traditionally regulated relationships only between states. It has evolved, however, to cover a broad range of actors. IHL is notable in this regard, as it recognizes obligations fo

A surrogate, also called substitute, is an individual that acts on behalf of another. The most common type of surrogate is a surrogate mother. Surrogate mothers are quickly becoming popular among couples that may be having trouble conceiving, couples that cannot have children, gay couples, single women, and women that have had risky pregnancies. While surrogacy has become a popular path for many different types of couples (and individuals), the laws have been either slow to catch up or non-existent. For this reason, and many others, it is important to understand the different types of surrogates/surrogacy and any laws that may apply to each.
There are two types of surrogates: gestational and traditional. Gestational surrogates are the most common type of surrogate. In this case, the surrogate carries a child that is not genetically related to her. The egg and sperm may come from the biological mother and father or the eggs and/or sperm may come from an anonymous (or known) d
