Law Enforcement Scholarships





LINE OF DUTY SCHOLARSHIPS

The San Diego County Deputy Sheriff s Foundation (SDCDSF) has established nine scholarships for children of DSA members. The scholarships are intended to:

  • Assist a high school graduate who desires to earn a college degree.
  • Recognize a student who has demonstrated academic ability, leadership, moral integrity and initiative.

The DSF will award a total of nine scholarships of $2,000 each. A one time payment will be sent to the awardees college of choice and must be paid by the end of the calendar year.

These scholarships are awarded in the memory of the nine SDSO Deputies who have given their life in the line of Duty.

Scholarships will be awarded to children of DSA Class 1 sworn active or retired members. Students must be in their last year of high school and preparing for graduation. The parent must have three or more consecutive years of continuous membership in the DSA on the first day of June preceding the student s college entrance, and be a member of the association when the scholarship is awarded, or be a retired member in good standing.

To qualify for the scholarships, the student must be accepted to an accredited two or four-year college or university during the term immediately following high school graduation.

STANDARDS FOR SELECTION

Candidates for the scholarships will be evaluated on the following standards:

1. Academic Achievement

The high school academic record of each candidate will be considered. Candidates will be expected to have sufficient credits to begin undergraduate work. Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 ( B ) grade point average based on a weighted scale.

The character and integrity of each candidate will be considered.

Demonstrated qualities of leadership, either in school or community activities, will also be considered.

4. Athletic Achievement

The athletic achievement of candidates will be looked at, however, is not a determining factor for scholarships to be awarded.

5. Community Service

Demonstrated willingness to give back to the community by service to community organizations.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

Finalists will be chosen on the basis of the selection criteria reviewed by the Scholarship Chairperson and committee.

HOW TO APPLY

The DSA Scholarship Application can be obtained application online here or at the DSA Office.

The application form must be filled in completely by the applicant. It should be mailed to the Scholarship Chairperson, Deputy Sheriffs Association, 13881 Danielson St. Poway. CA 92064 .

Applications must include a copy of the official transcript of their high school record, to include the first semester of their 12th grade year.

Applications for scholarships must be received by the Scholarship Chairperson on or before April 1, 2015.

Announcement of scholarship awards will be made in May, to be effective the following August. All winners will receive acknowledgment at their high school awards ceremony and at a DSA meeting.
