To find the top online law school students should consider

1. Use of Socratic Method

Under the Socratic Method system of legal instruction. before each class, students are assigned cases to read and brief. This is followed by in-class presentations by the students. This is a crucial part of the learning process, students are questioned by the professor regarding the facts, rule of law, or the court’s reasoning in the case assigned for class.

The Socratic Method prepares students for the practice of law, it teaches law students how to analyze and make legal arguments, how to properly read and brief cases, and, lastly, how to prepare for the pressures of a legal practice. Although much of the practice of the law involves research and writing, all attorneys must discuss the law with other attorneys, judges, and their clients. Therefore, a properly trained attorney must be prepared to form legal arguments, analogize, and respond to direct questioning.

Americas Legal Bookstore published a book entitled “The Online Law Schools Book.” by Dominick Latella. Mr. Latella wrote as follows:

"California School of Law is THE ONLY ONLINE LAW SCHOOL TO OFFER LIVE SOCRATIC METHOD TEACHING ONLINE.

Students live video conferencing class twice per week. Teachers use the Socratic Method asking students questions in the same manner that teachers at Harvard, Yale, and any traditional school ask their students. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday nights, at 6:00 pm PST. So, basically anyone can attend.

This is the closest thing to a real law school. You will learn how to prepare for class, interact, live, in class, and have a true Law School experience! As the years go on, there are Moot Courts and trial practice, live, again assuring the most real life Law School Experience of any of the online law schools. You better be prepared for class!

The California School of Law is Real Law School. If you have two nights per week for the next four years, it will give you the most Real Law School experience possible. Students also can meet online for study groups. It is amazing. A thumbs up.

2. First Year Law Student Exam

Besides the use of the Socratic Method the California School of Law is the Top California online law school because of their FYLSE results.

The Students from the California School of Law have done exceptionally well on the First Year Law Students' Exam (Baby Bar) that is required by the California State Bar for all online law schools. In two recent exams the results were as follows: June, , 75% of the law School's "First Time Takers" passed and in June, , 100% of the law School's "First Time Takers" passed.

The California School of Law  provides a review course to assist its students in their preparation for the First Year Law Students’ Exam.

Two months prior to the administration of the FYLSE. the FYLSE Review Course becomes more focused and intense, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm PST and on some scheduled Saturdays. The professor will review each student’s work, go over any areas needing improvement and make appropriate assignments to help the student become prepared for the FYLSE. The final month of the FYLSE Review course provides extensive simulated testing with focused feedback. Students work on areas needing reinforcement and continue to sharpen their skills for the FYLSE.

3. Flexible Law School Schedule

Top online law schools provide flexible law school schedules that can accommodate students work schedule and family obligations without affecting their law school commitment. Many students cannot afford to stop working during law school, for various reasons, including debts, monthly expenses, or because their families rely on them. These students should look to the top online law school programs that offer either evening classes.

Additionally, students who do not have a law school nearby or do not have the time in their day to commute back and forth should consider online law schools. For example, courses at the California School of Law  are held only twice a week and each student participates in a live, interactive, real-time law school classroom from the convenience of their home or their office. This saves the student the time and money of commuting and thus the student can devote the extra time to their family or in preparing for the rigorous of their law school course work.

Most prospective law students have done enough research to know that law school is expensive. The average law student borrows $68,827 up to $200,000 +. This debt does not include the undergraduate debt a graduate may already have incurred, credit card debt, car loans, etc.

Students who graduate with such high student loan debt should expect to pay at least $1,500 a month over a 25-year period to pay off their law school student loans. For most adult students who have monthly costs associated with family, credit cards, car loans, undergraduate debt, and older students who cannot expect to be able to repay their student loan debt within 25 years (because they may be well into retirement age), this kind of debt is not an option.

Moreover, many prospective law students are not aware of the additional costs associated with law school, outside of the basic tuition fees. A student should consider the costs of: relocation to a new city, cost of living, cost of books and study aids, income lost by leaving a steady job, income lost if the student is not permitted to work in the first year of law school, and costs associated with taking the bar exam.

Where costs of law school is a serious factor for students, many students may want to give consideration to the top online law schools which may not involve costs associated with relocation or commuting.

California School of Law  is very affordable charging only $9,000 a year, just $36,000 for all four years of study. The law school also offers affordable payment options for students, which is why they are the top online law school. Thus, a student who does not wish to owe astonishing debt upon graduation should also consider more affordable law school options like online law schools .
