#Rutgers University Full-Time MBA

Program Structure

The 21-month full-time MBA program mainly schedules classes during the day, with some electives offered in the evening or on Saturdays. Students have the option of completing an internship during the summer or taking classes to finish their degree sooner. There is one full-time MBA intake per year, and students enter RBS in the fall.

Curriculum

Students must completed 60 credits to earn the RBS MBA. Students begin the program in a single cohort and take all their core courses together. These seven core courses, worth a total of 19 credits, are Accounting for Managers, Ethics, Business Society, Financial Management, Managerial Economic Analysis, Marketing for Decision Making, Operations Analysis, and Organization Behavior. Students must also select three foundation courses out of six options, for a minimum of six credits. Foundation courses include Business Communications, Data Analysis Decision Making, Information Technology for Managers, International Business, Law Legal Reasoning, and Strategic Management. There is also an interactive course requirement with four options: Evaluating New Ventures, Integrated Business Applications, Supply Chain Management Industry Project or Urban Entrepreneurship Economic Development. Students must also demonstrate their proficiency in Calculus and Statistics by the end of the first semester either through relevant previous coursework or by taking Calculus for Managers and Statistics for Managers at Rutgers.

The rest of the required credits are completed through taking electives. Students may also pursue one of seven concentrations or design their own customized concentration. Concentration options include Pharmaceutical Management, Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Global Business, Management Business Strategy, and Marketing. These concentrations require a minimum of 15 elective credits to complete with Finance, Pharmaceutical Management, and Accounting requiring 18 credits.

In their first semester, full-time MBA students must also complete the non-credit Career Management Program Course, designed to help students prepare for seeking internships and full-time positions. Only after passing the course may students participate in on-campus recruiting.

Class Profile

For the 2012-2013 academic year, there were 90 students enrolled in the traditional Fulltime MBA program. For the Class of 2012, the average student was 28 years old and had completed four years of work experience prior to enrolling. Students posted an average GPA of 3.3, while the average GMAT score was 644.

Careers

Over 90% of the full-time MBA Class of 2012 were employed with 90 days of graduation. The median salary was $85,000 with 35% of the class accepting finance/accounting jobs, 28% choosing operations/production jobs, 22% accepting marketing/sales positions and 15% becoming consultants.

The MBA Office of Career Management (OCM) facilitates employment opportunities for RBS students. The OCM teaches the Career Management Programs course, designed to help students position themselves as competitive candidates for jobs or internships, and offers other career-related services like résumé review or mock interviews. The office also manages the on-campus interview process, corporate presentations and Meet Greets—career fairs exclusively for MBA students.

Tuition Financial Aid

For in-state residents, tuition costs $11,415 per semester, or a total of $45,660 for the 2012-2013 academic year. Those living outside of New Jersey pay $19,439 per semester, or $77,756 in total. Other fees by semester include a $743.50 campus fee, a $152 computer fee, and a $349.25 school fee. There is no separate loan program run by the school, so RBS encourages US applicants to apply for federal Direct and Direct PLUS loans by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). International applicants need to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover education and living expenses since they are not eligible for federal or university-based financial assistance.

RBS offers scholarships to Fulltime applicants at the time of admission. The Rutgers Business School Graduate Scholarships Fund provides varying amounts of financial assistance based on need and academic potential. There are also a variety of endowed Fellowships and Scholarships linked to the school. Students should check with the admissions office or program directors to determine eligibility and availability.

Admissions Procedures

The full-time MBA program requires that students have completed at least two years of work experience before matriculation. In addition to an online form, applicants should submit their official academic transcripts, a $73 application fee, two letters of reference, a current résumé, GMAT or GRE test scores, and, in the case of international candidates whose native language is not English, a TOEFL score. Applicants should also submit responses to one of three essay topics: (a) Describe an ethical dilemma you have faced and how you resolved it; (b) Explain what you have learned from your experience as a member of a team whose project was not completed successfully; or (c) Describe your greatest professional achievement and how you added value to your organization. An interview is also required for full-time applicants. Candidates who hold a PhD, JD, MD or PharmD are exempt from the GRE/GMAT requirement.
