#Temple University, James E. Beasley Law Ratings RankingsWhat do these ratings mean?from Brian Dalton, Breaking Media Director of Research The ATL School and Firm Insiders Survey asks self-identified current students, alumni, and practicing lawyers to rate major aspects of life at their law school (academics, social life, clinical training, career services, financial aid advising) and/or law firm (compensation, hours, morale, culture, training). We then translate these ratings into letter grades, where the mean score for each particular ratings category is the equivalent of a “B.” EmploymentInsider ReviewsAlumni Great school for placement in the Philadelphia, South Jersey, or Delaware markets. Produces some of the most diverse and down-to-earth attorneys I have ever met. The staff is knowledgeable and as diverse and the student population. Most of the staff are welcoming and eager to help you with your education and your job search. But if you want career services you d better get used to googling. Students Can t beat the price. Strong presence at Philly firms relative to similarly situated schools (Villanova, Rutgers-Camden). Great regional school with deep connections to Philadelphia law firms. They are increasingly focused on practical training. On the downside, the campus and the library aren t much to speak of and the class discussions can lag. I m in the part time evening program, and have had a great experience so far. The atmostphere of the evening division has the same academic rigor as the day division, without the inevitable 1L high school drama. In addition there is no bias towards the evening students we are ranked with our entering class 1L year, and can transfer between the divisions at any point after the first year. Im in the middle of Spring OCI right now, and I ve personally heard from employers that students who can hold down a job and get good grades at the same time are very impressive candidates. Others have heard the same thing. In short, Temple has a very solid part time program. Pros: value, value, value (especially if in-state); excellent clinical programs and in-school job opportunities, in large part because of the school s urban location; advocacy programs are both highly rated and highly practical; professors are largely excellent and include a number of district and circuit court judges; and for all the crap it gets for being in North Philly, the location honestly is not only safe, but right next to the subway this means, in addition to making it easier to find a part-time job (which, in turn, makes it easier to find a full-time job) it seriously bolsters students social life by allowing them to live (at a pretty reasonable price) in Center City (and nearly everyone does). / / Cons: the facilities are OLD; the career planning office is trying, but sometimes seems overworked and understaffed; cutting through the red tape can be tough; my location comment above comes with a disclaimer: although Temple itself is nice (and getting nicer) I wouldn t wander too far off campus.
